How do you unload a ML, besides shooting it? Also, if you have an inline, is is considered safe to just remove the primer?

If inline, remove primer, remove breech plug, remove powder, push bullet out. If traditional, shooting it is the easiest way but if cant then remove cap, use a ball puller to screw into your bullet and pull it out. There is also another way but I have never used it before. There is a pressurized air canister that can be attached to the nipple port and can be used to push everything out the end of the barrel.

As far as being "safe"...many states consider a muzzleloader with no primer or cap installed to be "unloaded". I personally prefer no projectile or powder present when I store my smokepole.

I have the co2 cartridge discharged for my Thompson Center Renegade and they work great. I bought it 20 years ago when I had my first muzzleloader and had a lot of FTF caps in the new tin of CCI caps that I bought for my new rifle. So I pulled out the discharger and used it to unload it on the line at the range. Reminds me of pumpkin chunkin lol.

Did some searching, and am thinking they are no longer available. Was originally marketed by Genuine Innovation under the "Safe T Unloader" label.

if the discharger they're talking of is the
one i'm thinking of, it was a tool for inflating
bicycle tires adapted for use for b.p. guns.
you could probably rig an adapter for it in some
way. that what the other folks did.
you can also use a rubber tipped blow gun with
an air hose and compressor.
i shoot mine out before i leave.
i don't think it's safe in these modern times
to leave a load in. too many lawyers on television
looking for someone to sue.

One time at the range I couldn't get it to go off and had to use the ball puller... pain in the rear!

I've done both.. Used to shoot it then clean when I get home, but lately started putting the jag on the ramrod and pulling out the ball or bullet.

After a deer hunt yesterday, and not shooting the gun, I removed the primer, breech plug, then pushed out the powder/bullet with the ramrod. I was surprised the powder (pellet form, not loose) was not damaged.
