We have pulled .338 and .375 caliber rounds out of bulls shoulders. Remember that their bone is huge on their front shoulder. Absolute best shot is quartering away tuck it behind the shoulder or high shoulder where you can knock out both shoulders and some spine. Will drop them in their tracks. Also had a client shoot one in the neck on his own accord and it broke the neck but not the spinal cord. It ran about 100 yards then stopped. Took 3 more rounds to get him down. At 50 yards with a solid bullet then the shoulder is great as much as we like to be 150 yards and in it doesn't always go as planned as its called hunting so just to give you some options. Had 2 other hunts shoot in the neck and we tracked for 6 hours on blood then lost blood. Never found the bulls. Barnes and Norma are our 2 favorite bullets for nilgai. We've had best blood trials with them.

Scott, I hAve the 350 rem mag and the 9.3x62 both awesome for nilgai. Which 350 rem mag do you have? The 338 is enough as well. 300 win mag is the ideal gun but can be done with smaller just shot placement, as stated above, is key. Wait for the right shot even if the first bull gets away its more important to have a great shot on it than wounding it as they can go a long long way wounded!

My 350 Rem Mag is a Ruger 77. It's been Cerakoted and the stock is a McMillan Rhino Cam. I barely use the 350 Rem or the 9.3 because I never really hunt anything big enough.

Any of those will get it done. I like a heavier bullet out of the .338, maybe 250 grain but that's personal preference. Give me a shout when you're ready to put a hunt together. Thanks in advance

Scott, that is a good looking 350. Mine is a Remington 700 Classic and I settled on 225gr partition @ 2700fps. Bought that rifle planning a moose hunt but never have gone on that but it has worked well for elk, mule deer, whitetail, hogs and a couple coyotes. It I the only rifle so far that I have killed 3 hogs with one shot. If I ever do a Nilgai hunt it will be on it. Lots of confidence in that rifle

Nice looking gun!! Mines a Remington 673. The 338 is an awesome round as well! My 9.3 is the Mauser M12 extreme. We are sponsored by them. They came on a nilgai hunt with us and had great success with the 9.3 and the 300. We had them and hornady and some writers all shot some great bulls! I shot mine with a 300 Win Mag at about 25 yards. He was facing me. Hit him btwn neck and shoulder. He went 20 yards. Bullet selection is very important.

typical shot is 125 yds and in from there. Recommended .338 or larger with a Barnes X or similar quality bullet.
I shoot a .375 H&H with a 270 grain load. They still run every time, but you can find them. Anything smaller than a .338 you run the risk of a bull for sure running and losing blood trail. .300 is probably good enough for a cow though, I've shot one with my 7mm Mag before with 175 grain load.
