A lot of folks like the Federal Heavyweight #7's for factory loads, but they can be tricky to pattern. Check over at Old Gobbler..they have a page dedicated to 20 gauge loads and what works in what gun.

BarnyWho loads the best load for a 20 ga. ever. I used my Charles Daly 20 ga. with a Trulock Federal Heavyweight #7 choke and the Federal Heavyweight #7 shells. It put out a deadly pattern at 40 yards that will no doubt kill a turkey. It looked devastating on paper and I can't wait to try it this season.

Those TSS handloads are the ultimate turkey loads...I'm surprised someone hasn't started producing them for the mainstream by now.

To expensive, my costs alone is around $9/shell and that's buying bulk and loading myself. It's about impossible to try and sell 5 for $75 or whatever would be necessary to turn a profit.

But yes federal heavyweights with a non ported choke is likely your best off the shelf option. Great load. Shot them until I got the tss bug and I'm done now

I have killed several with copper plated #4 Winchesters. All within 35 yards

TSS is 100% the ticket in the small bores. You must be paying a lot for your shot trash2. I want to say the last time I figured up the cost per shell excluding the time to reload them it was around $6-$7/load.

I think I'm going to the 28ga this year.

TSS is the way to go if you can. I have killed several and watched kids kill several with the 20ga using heavy shot #6 3 inch shells with factory full choke tube out to 42 yards.

Not really, just adding up all the costs for me. $45/lb, 1 5/8/ shell is around $5 plus about $300 in reloading material (figure 100 shells so $3/per) comes to $8. If I reloaded other shells etc my cost would come down but I consider this sunk costs. But yes if I just bought the shot and used someone's reloading equip and components, I'd be right at $5ish

Any off the shelf shell in 4,5,6 that patterns well in your shotgun will kill. My son has killed a truckload of turkeys with a Mossburg 20ga youth with mod choke and Remington 2-3/4 6's. We keep our shots under 40 and never had one run off. A #6 pellet traveling at 1,300 fps doesn't know if it came from a .410 or a 10ga.....it's all about the pattern.

Loaded 50 TSS 1 5/8oz today that are headed to TN. Cost is less than $6/shell on these.
