I have seen two all season. Hardly any hitting feeders. It's been all bucks. Very weird year.

I have gotten one buck this year so far. It was my first Texas deer. I will get my two doe's during muzzleloader season in January and donate one. We have some pretty big mature doe's running around on my buddies property. My buddy donates a lot of hogs which is great of him to do.

Got one 12/10 in the morning and another that afternoon.

If I had a bigger freezer, I'd be out right now for #3!!!!!

I shot one the second or third weekend.

We usually try to get most of our does shot in the late season, keeps the pasture quiet and bucks as active as possible. The major part of the rut we get to hunt is around the first of the year, the best part of our hunting season is yet to come.

No sir and don't plan to. Our numbers are down from losing 2 or more complete age groups of fawns due to the drought in 11 and 12. Gonna let them rebound some more before we take any does. I'm going this weekend to try and kill a few pigs.

I'm supposed to kill 3 on my place per TPWD. Have killed 1 and another 1 at another place, but going again tonight to try and shoot one.

They were everywhere earlier in the season, but hard to find now. Happened last year too - everybody freaked out that our area was "over hunted" and all the deer were dead. Come January, I had like 30 in my pasture again. Hope I get a shot tonight.

Yep. Put 2 does into neighbors freezers that were wanting venison.

Just ate some backstrap tonight for dinner from the doe I took last week. Heading out tomorrow morning for an all day hunt looking for antlers or a spike for the freezer. First one in the crosshairs and it will be tragic.

I can honestly say, I will never kill another Doe,,unless it's a mercy killing. I haven't killed one in years but I know they need to be thinned for the good of the herd. Got some folks that do that for me. I can't do it, getting tender hearted I reckon.

I killed a 6 year old doe this year. First one I have taken since 2010. She was really old and that was the only reason I took her.

Taking does is great, IF they need to be taken.

Our place doesn't need many killed right now.

Not yet. Will be knocking down the first one I see today and donating it to my partner at work. He has a wife and 2 kids, 1 income, and works his tail off. Both his kids have heart conditions that require mom to stay home because daycares won't take the responsibility of caring for them. $48 to have it processed and he will be able to feed his family for a while.

My observation from the past two seasons is they need to slow down the doe harvest in the SE panhandle. Not, sure it matters anymore. The influx of hunters last decade has decimated the older bucks. Seeing far too many 130-140 deer in the back of trucks these days.

Hunting in Fisher County and I've only had 1 hunt where I've seen more does than bucks. Then that was 4 does and 4 fawns, so no telling if there were nub bucks in that group.

Made it the entire season without seeing a doe at the feeder. Neighbors wheat field is usually covered in deer with a good bit of does, didn't see a deer in their wheat field after Thanksgiving, thinking they hit them pretty hard.

In a 1 buck county and we need to do more thinning of older 4 and 6 pts running around breeding everything than harvesting does. Tough to pull that trigger on a cull buck knowing what is out there.

Can you really shoot too many older mature bucks if you are letting all the 1 1/2 - 3 1/2 year old deer and many of the 4 1/2 year old deer live?

Question, not a comment.

I didn't take any does this year since my game camera indicated more buck than doe. Didn't hunt too much this past season so I don't really know the real ratio.

I think what he is saying is people are shooting too many young deer and not many are reaching maturity.

I don't believe you can shoot too many mature deer as when they are mature they are what they are going to be and shooting them is equivalent to removing another mouth from the range... except the mouth happens to be connected to a mature bucks rack.

Sorry wasn't clear, those 3.5 and 4.5 year olds that score 130-140 will grow into 150-160 inch deer if you let them get another year or two. hunted up there most of my life. Quality is not what it was 5 years ago, much less 10 to 15 years ago.
