Yesterday coming back through New Braunfels we decided to eat at coopers for lunch. We were the first there at 11. That was probably some of the worst BBQ I have had in quite a while. It was probably a third fat. The rest was mushy. Looking at side dishes most look like they had been there the day before. Never again.

They had this on here a few months ago. It got mixed reviews.

Coopers has gone way down hill over the years. I grew up eating bbq from the original location in Mason where my grandparents live. They ate Coopers bbq for years, starting around the time Tommy Cooper (my dads uncle) opened the locatiom in Llano. They quit eating Coopers several years ago. It isnt what it used to be.

I beg to differ. The one in Llano is great. The one in Junction not so great. You want good BBQ go to Heavys in Hondo.

Only been to the one in Llano a few times.

Generally find it to be okay but too heavily relying on the seasonings vs the meat.

Always got the same impression about the sides and stayed away from them.

One in Junctions is expensive and not very good. One in Llano was good last time I ate there. Lum's in Junction was still good the last time I ate there.

Lum's in Junction, up the street, closer to town, is head and shoulders better than that Cooper's there.

Like their pork chop and pecan cobbler. You can pretty much keep the rest of it.

Coopers in Junction and in Mason are not part of the Coopers in Llano or any of the other Coopers old time pit Bbq.

Not quite sure what you are saying....the original Coopers bbq is in Mason, TX. George Cooper started it, then sent his son Tommy Cooper (my dads uncle) to Llano to open a second restaurant. After Tommy died, the Llano location was sold to and the new owners opened the restaurant in New Braunfels. George sold his restaurant shortly after Tommy died and that was the end of the Coopers running Coopers bbq, to my knowledge.

Ate at Coopers in NB last year and it was not good at all. We had the brisket and sausage and it was very underwhelming. We do go to Blacks in Lockhart and the BBQ is fantastic

Ate at the Cooper's in Llano once probably 6-8 years ago and was really underwhelmed. The meat was fatty, tough and lacked any real flavor. Hate to say it just sucked, but it was close. The sides were even worse.

Maybe it was just a bad day or we got some poor cuts. But with all the hoopla, I was expecting a lot more.

Coopers is very marginal....I have eaten in Mason, llano, and Junction...I'd rather eat Mcdonalds...and stay on the road...and get some where good...

Llano & Junction, their thick chop (porkchop) is usually pretty decent. The brisket is hit or miss at both locations. They used to have ribeye (I think Fridays only) that was very good. Their Jalapeno sausage is usually solid choice too. I typically just get meat by the pound and a wad of bread and their dipping sauce ... don't usually get sides. My wife likes their chicken but I am not much on yard bird. None of the Coopers rank in my top 20 BBQ places that I have tried, years ago it was a different story but now their weekends are packed with yuppies and Harley rider wanna bes ...

For brisket, I much prefer Inman's Country Kitchen in Llano. I want to give Lums a try when passing thru Junction though.
