I will NEVER buy another alpha female pup again -------- she wants to be the the boss no matter what the issue is------ she is nearly immune to the elect collar --- she points well and would never bump a bird, but she just wont obey without being told 4 times, hardheaded would give an accurate picture of her. Is it possible she got this way watching my wife ??

Turn up the juice on that collar. If that doesn't work picking her up by the ears followed by a good shake will get her attention.

Bill,,, its not crap,,, if you had any experience with dogs you would understand the problem. I have turned the collar up,,,,I have not tried grabbing her by the ears,,, that will be my next attempt at getting her attention.

Rope, pinch collar, heeling stick.....work on obedience. You can pick her up by the ears and light her up all you want and I bet you don't get very far but good luck.

I'm not an expert, so take what I say we a grain of salt. I'm always on my dog even around the house. We can be inside and il tell her to sit and stay, if she breaks, we'll discipline bring her back and get her to stay put. After about a yr of constant reminder of you do what I say and when, the dog will learn this is your show and not hers. Discipline can be grabbing em by the hide and dragging em back to where you told em to stay. You push their butt down tell em to sit point at em and tell em to stay. Be firm in your commands, but realize it's a learning process for the dog also. I try this with my wife also, I think her and the dog are related

And positive reinforce good behavior. Let em know when they do good. Get excited rub their heads, rub their ears, put your face by theirs and love em up. They ll know when they did good and want to do it again. My wife is the same way

I have a GWP just under 6 months and he's super intelligent, high desire, but stubborn as heck as well. I've found keeping him on a pinch collar and lead during training, walks, and a couple hours a day at my side works better than striking him. He will comply with the collar on when told to sit, heel, stay, no, ect. I will transition to a shock collar to get him to come without pulling on the lead pretty soon (he has a tendency to stop about 5 feet from me to "own the bumper/bird). I also recommend leaving him with a professional for a month or so of training. Most of the good trainers will take a pointer for puppy training at the 6 month age for a month or so to assess the dog. Seems like the going rate is around $750 for the month. The dog will learn to be a dog when kenneled with half dozen other pointers. It will knock of some of the spoiling she has gotten from being a family pet. Plus some pointers seem to learn better working with older dogs, where she won't be the Alpha. Keep with it and don't give in to beating the dog to the point it where it runs from you and doesn't want to train with you out of fear.

Do basic obedience yard work training EVERY DAY twice a day if possible. Get that dog obedient in the yard and you won't have to mess with so much crap in the field. Forget the nick (momentary) on your shock collar. Use constant at low level and step it up until you get her attention. You want to get where you can use the lowest level possible on your collar, at constant. Most people start too high on the collar. You get the best behavior if you can get the dog to respond to a level so low it doesn't feel like a shock, more like an annoying tingle. Constant stimulation and stepping up when the dog doesn't respond is much more effective that a high nick. If you use high level nicks some dogs learn to just wait you out and then do what they want. Never use the collar with a command until she understands what the command is. She must know what is expected of her for the collar to be useful.

Mine is like that. The caller is like a remote for the dog. There is no way I'd keep my sanity without that collar. So last week I forgot the e collar charger at the lease 5 hrs away. I keep her on a check cord everywhere we go. I live on 20 acers but it's not fenced in and she ran off earlier this week. Anytime she's outside she gets the check cord. The pick up and shake works really well. She's doing ok without the collar but I have to keep putting her in check. That being said... From what you've said it sounds like maybe you give her to many warnings. Give the command... vibrate the collar....shock.

Very good advice. Repeating a command over and over when the dog doesn't respond just teaches it that it does not have to respond right away. You need to set up scenarios where you can correct immediately when a command is ignored.
