I haven't bought a new pocket knife in a while, and I decided to go out knife shopping. I have pretty much been a die hard Buck knife fan my entire life, but I have to say, I am not a fan of the modern pocket knives they are producing. So, it was on to something different. I don't know why, but I got it into my head I wanted a nice high quality pocket clip knife.

Years ago, I ran across some Spyderco knives on sale in South Dakota, and I bought on for my brother as a birth day gift. At that time, I wouldn't have even thought about carrying a non-Buck knife. About a month ago, I met up with my brother and he had dug out that Spyderco and was carrying it. Said he didn't carry it before because the pocket clip was on the wrong side, but since he started his new job( he has become more mechanically inclined) he fixed it and said he really liked it.

That got me thinking about tactical knives, and I pretty much ended up looking and Benchmade and Spyderco. I just didn't like the Benchmades. I wasn't a fan of the ugly ( to me handles) and the button lock. I have hand tremors, and I could forses cutting myself with that Benchmade. I wanted a USA made Spyderco, but couldn't find one in person to try out. But I did run across this inexpensive Spyderco. I figured I would buy it, carry it around awhile, and if I liked it, I would order the expensive one.

My first reservation about Spyderco was the thumbhole instead of a stud. I didn't think I would like that hole. Turns out, I like the hole. ( That came out wrong)


The spyderco military I wanted doesn't have a moveable pocket clip, so I wasn't sure if I liked the tip down orientation. My previous pocket clip knives were tip up. Turns out, after a few times pulling the knife out of the pocket, I didn't care if it was tip up or tip down.



I absolutely love the thin grind of the blade. This slices through things effortlessly compared to a big thick blades on my Buck pocket clip knives.



I am not a fan of where it is made



However, this has been a very high quality knife so far. I can't fault this knife on anything so far, and I am planning on ordering the expensive made in USA Spyderco later this year.

Spyderco make good knives, I have owed a bunch.I have a Schempp in my pocket right now. My favorite one was a Caly3. That was a sweet knife. Lost it somewhere.

I carry an H1 dive knife on my hip when i wade fish. That thing has seen countless hours in the salt water and its still in great shape.

I carry a Delica 4 with ZDP-189 steel. It stays sharp a long time. Not as long as my CPM-20cv Benchmade, but it's a better carry piece. I'd buy it again for sure.

I have many Spyderco knives including the Tenacious you have pictured. Very well made for the money.
But I have to say I love all my Benchmade knives a bit more. Call me a snob but you get what you pay for. I'm carrying that Spyderco as I type this. First time in a while I haven't had a Benchmade or Microtech in my pocket.

I am a huge Spyderco fan and own over 20 different models. Benchmades, in my opinion are way overpriced for what you get. I own several Benchmades, but their 154cm steel sucks. Spyderco is truly the one company that allows the "every man" a chance to try out some amazing steels at relatively great prices "you get what you pay for". If you are a little put off by the fact that the tenacious is made in China, I recommend picking up a Paramilitary 2. MAde in Golden, Colorado USA, S30v steel, G10 scales (not the crappy injection FRN that benchmade uses) a compression lock. You will understand when you use it. My favorite right now is The Gayle Bradley 2 by Spyderco. Design by Gayle bradley out of Weatherford, Texas.

I like both knives - currently carrying the Benchmade Griptillian. Benchmade has a lifetime warranty and free sharpening as well.

I'm DONE with spyderco! They have a older gen military of mine they will not fix even though they say the have a "lifetime warrenty". They say they don't make the part anymore. They offered me 45% off the knife of my choice or to send it back to me as is......
3 months ago! I called yesterday and she says they are behind on shipping knives back to people..... I found a replacement part on eBay. So I plan on fixing it and selling it. Not impressed.


I send a box of benchmades to them once a year. They fix, tune, lube, sharpen and replace worn parts in a timely matter.

I have not used one in years. Old days they were good.
