Weekend turned out real good for us. Bird numbers still have plenty of room to improve, but still scratched some up. For as nasty as it was on Saturday! Sunday was on the verge of being to hot.

The weather was good. Very gloomy, snowy ground with a very light rain. Scenting conditions were decent.. The wind could've been a tad stronger but it did pick up. When it did, the dog was pointing birds 30 yards away. Birds held tight. Coco pointed 12 solid points on pheasant and they let me walk in and flush like quail. It was cold but so worth it.

I had a really unusual hunt. We mostly hunted south of Hale Center and then hit up a couple of spots over towards Floydada. We hunted with two pointers and two Labs and I think the Labs pointed as many birds as the pointers. We saw 15 - 20 pheasant roosters but for some reason they were getting up 50 - 75 yards out. I've never seen birds, especially at the start of the season, act like these. We only shot at two roosters and got lucky and killed both with long shots. Quail were as plentiful as I've ever seen. We could all have easily limited if we had stayed on them and hunted the singles, but we pulled off after every covey rise and moved on in search of pheasants. Hunted Saturday in a light mist and Sunday was postcard beautiful.
