I think top two are coyote, third looks small...bobcat probably but I'm betting an expert will chime in shortly.

That top one is for sure not a cat. It's a dog of some type.

I fully understand your thinking and how y'all have come to your conclusions.
Quit looking at the claws, the picture does not show their full story. Tell me what else the picture tells you. And explain your reasoning.

Second looks canine (longer than wide, teardrop shaped toes, claws, lack of 3 lobes on rear pad) but the first pic is confusing. Cant make out the pad, toes almost look circular like a cat instead of dog, and its wider like a cat. But the claws are out. Odd.

They are all the same. All these tracks were right in a line on the path the sow took to water. The picture tells the story. Notice the soil was mud when the track was made. That throws everything off some. In the first pic, notice the claw marks are nearly perfect circles. This is because cat claws curve down when extended. Looking at the track in person you could see how the claws traveled down into the mud instead of toward the path of travel like a canid. Also, when walking in mud, cats will extend their claws leaving the mark. In the second pic, both the front and hind foot tracks are seen. The bottom being the front foot and the top being the hind foot. Again the mud has distorted the impression some but the third lobe is visible. The third pic is of the cub. This soil was dryer than where the sow stepped so the claw marks are just barely pin pricks above the toes and the third lobe is visible. This is in SW Texas, and still the cub's track is large for a bobcat tom. Plus other sign indicated this is a cub traveling with a sow. Within twenty eight days, I should have pics of the catch. This ain't my first rodeo, it's my job This is not the lion I am looking for....swipes hand

http://www.bear-tracker.com/trackingvideos/cougartrackID/Howtoidentifyacougartrack.htmAlso notice your picture of the lion it has five toes on the front feet. The picture of the dog in your first picture only has four. A lion track only shows four except, when their paws are extended to grasp things. (AKA Killer claw). Also a lion has round tracks and is wider than long, saucer like. But what distinguishes a cat track, are the three lobes on the rear of each heel pad.

Trust me, the tracks in my pictures are not dog. The elongated toe that seems to appear is due to the skin between the pad and the claw pushing into the very soft mud when the track was made. And what you call a fifth finger is the dew claw, that yes, is used in grasping. But never in making a track.

I saw one of those larger prints the other day. If it's not a lion what is it? I'd have to see the track and the soil conditions in which it was made in order to help you identify the answer to your question.

Ever tried 1/8 inch cable snare on top of those smooth jaw new houses? Used to live west of your country and it seemed to decrease power outs.

Using tie wire around the jaws and setting the cable on the extended twist it will throw the cable up the leg. If you attach the swivel far enough up the drag chain, it will close on the leg when the cat jumps giving a better chance of a catch even if the foot is not dedicated to the trap. Helps make sure that a toe catch is still a good catch

The first track appears to be shaped like a lion but obviously has toenails, so it is a canine. Second looks like a coyote in the mud. Not sure on the others would have to be there. I was lion hunting last week in the snow in AZ and notice that for some reason some dogs footprints look more like felines but so you really have to look for the toenails. We treed two lions in three days and cut several lion tracks in the snow which makes them 100 times easier to find. It was a little cold for this old man...-15 degrees on Wednesday morning. Adios, Gary

Yes sir, snow helps a lot. And -15 would be cold for anyone, especially me.
I will not explain myself again, it's not a dog.
