Has anyone shot an banded bird so far in the first half of the season? If you haven't, have you ever shot one before, If so, what species?
Mine have been a banded mallard drake back in 07, as well as a banded pintail hen. Father shot a double banded mallard drake with some $$ on one leg a couple years ago.

Shot 3, all drake mallards, all in Kansas, all in the 5 years I hunted there when I was in college. Didn't shoot one in Iowa growing up although my dad got a couple. Have been hunting in Texas 10 years now and haven't shot one, nor seen one be taken from any group we were in or talked to.

I have been hunting public lakes since I was a child, now 28, so about 18 years, my brother dad or myself have never shot a banded bird, several limits and great hunts, never a band. Goes with Dove hunting as well....

I killed a banded snow goose near Eagle Lake back in the mid-90s. I was in HS and the guide kept the bands. Wish I had known better at the time.

I have only shot 1 band in ~20 years of hunting. Shot it in 2014. Was on a Mallard I shot in North Texas, banded in Canada. My dad has shot 2 banded teal in the Eagle Lake area, both during teal season.

Goes with Dove hunting as well.... I'm 28, hunted public and private my whole life. I've killed 3.. 2 sprigs and a gadwall last year. What's cool is when my brother and I killed our first bands, we were both with our dad. Keep killing and you will get one. I've got buddies of mine that have hunted just as long and killed just as many birds and they don't have any either... another friend of mine kills at least 1 a year...My brother in law has a banded dove.. tiny little band too.

Personally Killed 2 wood ducks and one goose that were banded. Seen another couple banded geese, wood ducks and mallards get killed but we didn't know exactly who in the group shot them so we flipped coins or drew straws. All of those were In Georgia. Given nearly 700 ducks a boat ride since moving to Texas and not seen a band since.

My little brother has only been hunting for 3 years, he shot 28 banded doves this year, 19 last year and 8 his first year. He has also shot 3 banded Mallards in 5 hunts and two banded Canada Geese. He really ticks me off.
My dad has help band over 2000 doves in the area over the last 3 years. He also helped release 250 banded Mallards all in South East Colorado.
I have only shot 2 banded birds in 35 years of hunting, a wing banded white wing dove released for a wedding out of Kansas and a banded pintail drake from Saskatchewan.

How'd you find out it was banded for a wedding? It was a wing band and they have numbers you can track. They have to band all released birds in some states. I talked to the guy that banded the dove and that is what he told me. I use to have the web site but I cannot find it. I googled it up.

Killed a banded wood duck drake on the north end of Ray Roberts several years after it opened. Got it mounted and enjoy it every day. Bird was banded in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
