44 mag performance out of a 1911.

What is the advantage of 460 over the tried and true 45acp? Im not much of a handgun guy so wondering why one would go that route.

Performance. Its better for hunting or just to have 8rds of near 44 mag performance.

What bo323 said, X2! We have frequent encounters with feral hogs and tend to prefer having as large a hand cannon as we are able to handle riding around on our hip or in a shoulder holster. Besides, it's something a bit different to experiment with on our hog and deer population.

Kind regards, charlesb

Tff caribou, as mentioned, it's because I can and because I'm a gun nut. If I were rich instead of so stunningly good looking, I'd have one each of every caliber of every hand gun and long gun that I could acquire. (I have added an image of me to support the "stunningly good looking" part of this post.)

What is involved in the conversion, and obtaining or making ammunition? The conversion kits are available on line, and take about 10 to 15 minutes if you are converting a modern, strong framed 1911. Basically a drop-in that includes replacing the recoil spring with a much stouter one than the stock 1911. Ammo is also available, but I've not yet worked the reload portion of the equation. It's not a piece that you take to the range and shoot all day long, so I figuring that the 40 rounds I purchased will last long enough for me to figure out the reloading technique, using the brass I collect from the factory fodder.

Cool. Love the Roland. It will put the smack down on a whitetail, too.

I have been wanting to do this for a while now. And yes, just because I can! Where did you buy the conversion, if I remember right from previous research Clark made a kit, but would only do it for certain guns due to he pressure of the 460.

Went directly to the 460Rowland.com site and bought there. I think Brownell's sells the kits as well.

Wow, I was sick and on some prescription cough syrup that had me a little loopy yesterday. I sounded like a jerk with that. I guess what I meant was do you feel the money invested and the increase in cost of ammo is really going to be necessary? There probably isn't much the 460 Rowland can do that the .45acp can't.

Visit this site and read all about it: http://www.brassfetcher.com/Handguns/460%20Rowland/460%20Rowland.htmlAs I said earlier, I'm a certifiable gun nut, and rational things like cost only enter my buying equation when I just can't afford it! The 460 Rowland is a 45ACP on steroids; much higher velocity and much more energy to deliver to the target.
