Don't do it.

These tires (Size: 285-75-16, Load Range E) have a great looking, aggressive tread pattern that lead one to believe that it's an offroad tire. Not so. Mounted on my 2007.5 GMC 2500HD 4x4 Crewcab. Since buying these tires new in July I've had to replace 3 of them due to failed sidewalls. Two in one week after leaving the lease in Freer and the third while traveling the backcountry in New Mexico. They can't handle thorns or rocks. I can only assume (since they have stud holes) that they're only intended for on-road snow/ice conditions.

Previously I ran BFG AT KOII with Tri-Guard sidewalls. Went through 2 sets with NO tire failures and only two slow leaks that required patching.

I'm going to replace this third failed tire under warranty then sell them and go back to BFG. I have no faith or confidence in these crappy tires any longer. I'm sure they're great for the mall crawlers and pavement princesses, but they're no good for offroad.

I have had the exact opposite of what you stated. I lived in the freer area the last 4 years and had those tires on my work truck and personal trucks. Ran those tires through hell and never seemed to slow down. Both hunting and working I'd drive through roller chopped areas, mowed senderos, and plenty of other places I probably should have driven around and they held up fine.

However, as soon as I'd come visit the city, it seemed like you run over one nail and the tire would go flat. I actually have my tires at discount getting replaced because I got a nail in the sidewall while I was driving on the freeway of all places.

The more they wear out the louder they get and not something I'm fond of. My next set I'm going Cooper and will see how they do.

I ran 3 sets on my '09 f350, 1 on '14. Would ruin 1 per set due to thorn at edge of tread/sidewall. Pull a couple real heavy gooseneck trailers, didn't care for the softer sidewall. Bought a set of stock toyo takeoffs from Craig's list for my 14. Seem to be a better tire. Will be time for new tires soon. Discount told me the bfg's don't last as long.

I've been fighting tires and mesquite thorn problems at the lease for two years now. 'Spent way too darn much money on tires. If I can figure out how to reduce my "fleet" and get rid of a vehicle or two, I'm probably going to follow the rancher and tire guy's advice - finally buy a UTV and slime the tires. I've put it off since UTV's came out. Bunch of little boys showing off their shiny toys on their shiny trailers.

I've had set on my f150 for over a year and I run off road all the time. I go quail hunting in south Texas and we run that truck up and down the senderos. Maybe because your 3/4 ton is heavier truck they don't hold up as well. When I had an f250 I couldn't get tires to last like they do on my 1/2 tons.

I've been some research online and I'm seeing a similar complaint about the weak sidewalls. I like the look and performance of these tires but dang it. I can't replace a tire everytime I drive into the pasture. I've lost confidence in these tires. I've never had near the issues with BFG's. Granted the BFG's don't wear long, especially when towing a lot. I only managed 35,000 our of each set.

I ran the GY Duratrac on my last truck (285-75x16 on 2500 Cummins 4x4), 2 full sets, never had a flat and got over 50k miles on each set. They do not make a 285-75x17 (load range D only) or I would have put them on my current truck ('09 Cummins 2500 4x4). I went thru one set of Nitto Trail grappler in 28k miles to where they wouldn't pass inspection, no more of that. that was similar to the one set of BFG AT on previous truck. Earlier this year I switched over to Toyo Open Country RT that was a similar courser AT type tire to the GY DT but with much stiffer sidewalls. I only have about 12k miles on them so far and have been very pleased other than black gumbo type mud (they don't seem to clean out well).

Man, I'm hearing you guys say what success you had with these tires, but I can figure out how. I'm not doing anything with them that I didn't also do with the BFG's. Last week another tire blistered on the sidewall while I was offroad in New Mexico. 3rd tire this month due to sidewall failure.

Just FYI, I'm probably going to sell these (with new replacements, of course) and go back to BFG.

I had a set of Dura Tracs 315/70-17 on my 2012 mega cab diesel and they didn't last long at all. I got ~26,000 miles out of them and they were done. Never had a flat but they didnt wear well and I rotated them every 5,000 miles. I've had better luck with BFG's as well

We have ran them on Jeeps and they aren't worth crap if you use them in any rough stuff. The BFG K02 has a much better sidewall and is the only way to go from the experiences I have had as well as those of a couple dozen Jeep owners here. FWIW.

I sure hope you don't replace them with new BFG's just to find out its not the tire and do it all over again!

I've run BFG's on my truck since day one. That's 9 years and 2 set of tires. Everything is the same except the tires. Same usage, in the same terrain. I had one slow leak in all those years with the BFG's. Two failed sidewalls in a week on the GY and now a 3rd in the same month. I'm done. Going back to what has proven to work.

In further research, many of the on-line 4 wheeling sites have had similar complaints that the GY sidewall is prone to damage and failure from rocks and rough terrain.
