How it all worked out is still kind of funny. I set the young man up to shoot him and hunted the stand no one was seeing anything at. Would have been a good first buck for him. He got a good sized doe though so I don't think he was too disappointed.

Well the 10 got shot Saturday when I wasn't there and not recovered. bang
I'm working 70hr weeks so was unable to do much about it. Going down this weekend to do my best to find him. Based on what I was told and the pics of the blood, it looked like a liver shot.

New rule is no bucks shot unless I'm there and no more deer taken this year.

I wouldn't go that far because someone shot the deer you wanted...

He could of killed this deer already if he wanted to but passed to allow him to reach full maturity. His ranch his rules and I would manage it the same way.

It's my best friends place, I just manage it the best I can. My friend doesn't hunt and leaves most of it up to me as far as what goes on. It's me, the land owners son in law and a friend hunting 165ac.

Our friend is the one that shot the buck, after I gave him my blessing. It's his first year deer hunting and is pretty new to hunting overall. He's done a lot for me the past couple of years so I wanted to repay him. I'm not mad at him in the least, he's a good friend. Just probably not ready to be out there on his own yet and I think he pushed the deer too soon. He has what I call "New Hunter Syndrome"

No more deer this year means no more for any of us, three bucks and three doe were shot. That's more than enough I think.

6 deer on a 165 acres is a lot of deer unless your in certain parts of the hill country. What county are you in?
I am on 80 acres in Jack County and never take more than 2 deer a year, most of the time only 1.

Stub, I agree. We are in San Saba, only one neighbor hunts but they shoot a lot. We have the numbers and could probably shoot more doe. Our buck numbers this year seemed to be about 3x the amount as last year. I still think three bucks was too much but we will see next year.

He would be hard to let walk, but I think he needs to be given another year to see what he does.

He did shoot the 8 (see page 3) and the 10 was shot also but not recovered (see top of page 5).
