I've been hunting with my kids and my buddy's kids and my cousin's kids lately. I love sharing our hunting heritage with kids, but I will admit it was really nice to go on a hunting road trip with my old hunting buddy that I have been hunting with since college. We had a blast. Here are some pics of our 2-1/2 day hunt.

Great pictures except for the pear. How did the pups do? How many coveys?

Lots of coveys. Lost track. Always heard guys talk about finding coveys while trying to hunt singles but this was the case this weekend. Still too hot except for early morning. Humidity was 20% first day and we got poor dog work. 70% humidity early 3rd morning and cold-got best dog work of entire trip. Pups doing ok. Orange male is pointing. Black and white female is not yet, but she is awesome at finding dead birds and retrieves to hand 90% of the time. Take home experiences:

1) Browning A5's sometimes don't cycle well when it's 16 degrees.
2) long whistle lanyards will get you hung up during fence crossings
3) when hunting hilly terrain, quail always make you chase them OVER the hill
4) just because you watch a covey land in the only cover within 100 yards and walk rapidly and immediately to said landing spot does not mean you will find them, EVER
5) dogs quickly learn you are a really good guy to hang around when it comes to water bottles and removing grass burs.
6) you really need a couple of hours of "the last 15 minutes of daylight"!

Way to go, vet.
Now we're having fun.

You really need a good Benelli Cordoba 20 ga. It's like holding a magic wand.
