Didn't use them for years then about 10 years ago my hands would break out with a rash. Thinking it is from the hair, but would go away in 3-4 days. elmer

I use them on hogs. I have had a couple friends get brucellosis from cleaning hogs. I definitely don't want to go through what they did.

When you gut big game on public land walk-in hunts, and all the water you have is what you carried in a mile or so, disposable gloves can come in handy.

I hunt public land and guy in the field and don't use gloves. I just have bloody hands until I get back to the truck and clean up with baby wipes

I'm not eating anything I have to worry about getting diseased by from gutting. Plus you can quarter and cut back straps off a hog without gutting

I always use them. I buy the blue disposable gloves at Harbor Freight. I keep some in my day pack, and truck. I then use wipes after taking the gloves off. This makes clean up so easy. While in the field, there is no place to wash up. The gloves and wipes are cheap, and this works for me. Many do not bother with gloves, and that works for them. There is no right or wrong either way.

Very helpful feedback, everyone, thank you. May not be necessary, but I think always using them will be worth the peace of mind for me. Headed to Home Depot to stock up today. Well, maybe Sunday--don't do crowds very well.

Yep, if I remember to pack them mainly for easier clean up, of course I have only remembered them about twice.

I've got some of those things. But I'm certainly not afraid to get my hands a little dirty.

I carry palpating sleeves and nitrile gloves with me.
The sleeves go up past my elbows and then you put the tight gives over the hands.
No blood on me or my clothes.
This is especially nice when it is freezing cold outside and you have a heavy coat on.

In the mid seventies a DMV friend told me to always use gloves. I have followed his advice ever since.

On a mule deer hunt, I downed a buck. I overheard Boss Rancher tell my buddy as I was putting on gloves, "Oh hell, I'm going to have to gut the deer for him."
Qqqqq
A few minutes later, the deer was unzipped and gutted. Boss was heard to say, "Well, it looks like he knows what he is doing".

All is well that ends well.

It's not about getting dirty it's about PPE. I wouldn't treat a patient without gloves; why would I eviscerate an animal without them.

A dead animal has very few similarities to a patient you are treating.

Might want to consider skipping fielddressing unless your way back away from vehicle, Just skin and quarter and if you want tenderloin you can still get it without fielddressing. I use gloves when I do fielddress though.

How do you get to the tenderloin without field dressing?

hanging from the back legs, you VERY carefully cut to expose the tenders and sort of roll the gut bag forward. I pull the tenders from every deer and haven't gutted one in probably 20 years.

Back in the good old days before them gloves became available we used to loose maybe 20 to 30% of the folks who cleaned wild animals fortunately the loss is only about 5 to 10% today as I see it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do simply because I like to keep my hands clean. We have to bring water for washing and I like to be sparing with it.
