I am on a new lease in E. TX. It came with a metal shed/camphouse. It is full of rats. They come out at night. I was there last Monday, and really had trouble sleeping with all the noise they make, and wondering if I would get bit. I did some research, and learned the way to deal with this is to seal off all of the holes, then trap what is left. This is a old building that was made out of used sheet metal, and the panels do not fit tight. There are way to many holes to try and close them. My idea for now is to use the building in the daytime, and sleep in a tent at night. I have ordered some traps to do damage control. Any ideas?

Trap some feral cats, keep them in there.
Replenish them as the coyotes get them. Just spitballing.

Kill them all. Tom Cat Liquid poison in some chicken waterers is the best!

We were having a major rat problem at our lease both in our camphouse and my camper at the start of this hunting season. Like nothing we had ever encountered before. We had armies of the big grey rats this year whereas before we only had occasional mice and brown field rats. It took us over a full day to repair and clean everything from the damage they did during the summer. Our camphouse was built in the 1920s and impossible to seal it up completely. Because I am the one with a dog I took full responsibility for poisoning them so I would know when and where any poison was placed. From what you describe Poison is the only thing that will rid you of them just like our place. Pick up a bucket of bait blocks and put a few out in safe strategic places around your camphouse every time you are there. I have knocked ours completely out this way. http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/rats-c-21_217.html

Poison them!!! All the methods mentioned will do the job. Put out twice as much as you think you'll need.

I second the bait blocks. They make containers for the that only rats and mice can get into that makes it much safer to have pets around. Put the bait outside the camphouse perimeter, not inside. This will draw out the ones inside and keep from drawing more inside.

The rat bait will not kill all of them. The problem with rats is that once they find a home they do not travel far. They will have many groups of rats in many different area's. Once you think you killed them out others will move in. When you set the bait blocks, set in a bunch of different area's. Also set spring rat traps and put the bait on top and bottom of the pain. A bucket trap will keep catching them, you can find information on YouTube.

Buy a tent. No way I could get any sleep with vermin crawling over me.

Look around for the pesticide specialty stores. You can get more poison there for less money than what you would spend at the store. You can get buckets full of the bait blocks for a lot less than you'd spend at the grocery store. Don't bother with the packages that sell only 4 or 6 blocks.......instead, get three or five gallons of them at the specialty store. Then put it everywhere that you think the dog will not get to it. You can put a bunch of them out the day you leave the lease, or make a special trip up there several days in advance to put out the blocks. If you put out enough of the stuff, they'll be pretty well all gone in a matter of days. The advice here is good......put it in more places than you think you'll need. Then after the season, put more in to keep them out. I keep the blocks out all year round and rarely have any more problems. Put them around the walls and in the corners. Rats don't see well and will follow the edges of the walls. They also get underneath stuff, so put the bait blocks under things where the dog won't get them, behind things, etc.

Marlin fly bait and big red in a small pan when u leave next. Don't bring the dog or keep it in the truck when you return until I pick up the dead rats and the poison pan.

D-con poison and victor mouse traps. Use the foam that comes in aerosol cans to fill in gaps and holes.

My daughters shoes were outside the door a little over a month ago and dissappeared the next morning. Last week we saw a rat and it went under our container. We found her shoes and the rats. Gamo took care of them.

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.
