I have a friend who bought a small herd of Axis bucks and does to put on his high fence property. He is having trouble aging the bucks and figuring out how long it takes them to get nice (more than 30") racks. Any advice from those who have been raising them for a while? I know from living in the hill country that they do not come to feeders, though they do like alfalfa and that they are grazers liking thick brush and open fields to feed in. Thanks!!!

Curtis probably knows a lot more than I. But from what I have seen is. The first year they will be a spike. The second year antlers about 14" long. The 3rd year around 25" or so. 4th year getting around the 30" mark.

I shoot them as spikes because they are the only ones I can still load in my old age. I quit worrying about antlers many moons ago.
