Academy has always had these, and I have always been intrigued by them...especially at the sub $500 price point Anyone have experience with them? I've never really owned a break action shotgun, and am getting the holiday itch to buy one I've heard that some have trigger issues, but are good for skeet shooting. I'm not looking for something to hunt with, or to do comp with, just the style for friends and nephews to shoot every one in a while. Main question is - are they a waste of money? More trouble than they're worth? If so, should I save up to spend double on a nice CZ, or 2-3x more on a beretta? Fire away!

From someone who wasted a LOT of money on junk O/U guns .... don't buy it. Don't buy the CZ either. That is, if you want to have a lifetime gun that is dependable and machined from quality materials. I have seen these guns fall apart. Yes, literally fall apart. And that was guns that had very few rounds through them. The actions are poorly fitted and rough. About the only thing good on them is the wood. If you want more opinions from guys that have/do own them, check over at www.shotgunworld.com and read a bit. Save your money and find a nice used Citori or Beretta. They can be had in like new condition for $1200 or so. We own a few that are as new and we paid less than $1500 for each of them. Now let the flaming begin ...........

Not flaming Creedmoor, have read the same stuff....I fell into one in 28 guage a couple years ago (price was $100 lower than Academy and came w/ 15 boxes of AA's so I took a chance)...I've only shot a couple hundred rounds through it but it's been flawless, except that it's still stiff when opening. Maybe lower recoil allows it to hold up better. P_102

I have one with several hundred rounds through it and it shoots great. The action is a bit stiff, but it seems to be a great gun for the money. The only problem I've had was early on when the ejectors would stick. I took them out and cleaned all of the factory gunk out, re-lubed, and got it back on the road. I haven't had a single issue since.

I bought one for my son, who uses it for skeet and sporting clays. He has put 200+ rounds through it with no problems at all. Action is a little stiff as some have said, but it's a good gun for the price. I wouldn't hesitate to get one for myself.

I've had mine for about 8 years and have not had a problem that was due to the gun. Several seasons of duck hunting and some quail hunting along with skeet in the off season. You can't get a better gun for the money.ive read that some older ones had issues but they seem to have been fixed now. Yes I would Also recommend going to shotgun world .com too and read up about them. Kicks pretty good and is stiff but I don't let it bother me.
I'll take a Black Female every time.

Example ejectors where real stuff in the 12 ga. Had my crazy rhodesian gun smith work his magic. He did some polishing and works fantastic. The wood quality it actually pretty amazing. You can do some searchers in here from guy's refinishing the stocks on here and it's pretty impressive. Is it a citori no but you can buy 3 yildiz and have them custom fitted and still come out cheaper

True statement. A lot depends on how you are going to use the gun and how much it will be required to do. For casual shooting they are probably fine if that's all you want to invest and you can stand the reckless fitting and machining. Like comparing a Saturn to a Ferrari.

I'm sure happy with mine. I have the side by side version, and as others have said the break open action is a little stiff; but nothing about this gun feels substandard.

Speaking of a Yildiz falling apart.. Not the best time to have your trigger guard come off.. http://www.gun-tests.com/issues/27_8/fea...rg-26493-1.html
I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

Based on this statement I'd recommend the Yildiz. Worst case, the gun has issues or something brakes - just work with Academy & Briley to get it fixed. Since it's not going to be your go to hunting or shooting gun the down time won't be a big deal. Plus if its just for your friends and nephews to shoot, why spend a ton of money on it? People generally aren't as careful with guns they don't own so the chances of it getting scratched up are pretty good. I'd feel alot better about that on a $450 gun vs a $2000 gun. I own a nice Beretta O/U and a Yildiz O/U. Have shot and been around plenty of other nice O/Us (Browning, Kolar, Perazzi, Blaser). The Yildiz is not a high-end gun but it's not a junker either.

Because them jackwagons dislike it is all the more reason for me to buy it, if they gave away that magazine, I still would not subscribe. I have had 2 12ga, 1 20ga and 2 28ga Yildiz, sold all but one 28ga and other than being light as a feather and kicking like a mule, they are solid guns. I plan on sending this 28ga I have now to Aaron and having a Gra-Coil installed to lengthen the pulland then having it dipped in some camo pattern. It will be my wood duck/ slough gun.

I just wanted a cheap 20 ga O/U for dove hunting....been happy with mine and it came with 5 chokes. My only complaint is the LOP was a little short so I had to add a buttpad to increase it and now it fits perfect.

Thanks guys. It's good to hear from so many people, and almost all being positive.
I've thought about jumping on something pricier, but I'm ok with small cosmetic flaws & a stiffer action...I've got filler & grease!
I think I'll jump on one of the black friday deals at Academy.

They are a fine gun for under $500 and are best used for hunting and casual clay shooting. If you want to step up in quality without spending much more look into a used SKB.

I've shot both 12 and 20 ga and they've worked flawlessly for the last 5 years. Flawless entailing hunting dove, ducks and geese, pheasants, chukar, and quail. Just a little target practice.

They're honestly pretty good shotguns. I purchased one as my first competition O/U because I was a poor college student, and it worked perfectly through very heavy use over a couple of years.
My only complaint is that they're pretty light. They're like 6lbs, and even with light target loads it'll beat you up quickly.

I have the 28 gauge, no complaints. Good little gun for the money.
