I have $400. This scope will be used for hunting only. I do not care for anything that has a focus either side or objective. Would like something that holds light so maybe a 30mm tube. Also looking for a little more magnification as I have a couple feeders at 2-250 yards and my old 3-9 is getting harder to tell anything about horns before I shoot. So maybe a 12-14x zoom. What do yall recommend.

I'm assuming $400.00 includes TT&L. For my eyes at the zoom range you want it would be a VX-2 or a Fullfield II.

You can get a Burris Fullfield II in 4.5-15 for $300. I have two of them. Excellent scopes. Very clear and bright.

I just bought a meopta meopro 3.5-10x44 from Cameraland about a month ago for $350 including shipping and tax. I shot two deer with it mounted on my rifle this week. It's an excellent scope for the price. The glass is crystal clear and the light transmission is phenomenal. I did as much research as I could for a new scope and couldn't find a better scope for the money. It's made in the USA and it's the same glass that Zeiss used on the older Conquest series scopes.

I'm certain that you have your reasons, but I've used side focus scopes for years and they are very easy to adapt to.

We have 3 Nikon ProStaff 5 (not the regular ProStaff model) that are 3.5-14 power and they are clear, gather a ton of light, and the adjustments are spot on. Midway usually has them at good prices.

This would be my first choice but the OP wants higher magnification. Got mine when Camera Land had them for $250.00, it's been awhile. At the range the OP will be shooting the Meopta would great for me and my eyesight isn't all that good. IMO glass trumps magnification.

Contact Doug over at Camerlandny....he has some great deals on Minox right now. Go with atleast a ZA model or higher... blows Leupold or any other same level brand out of the water.

They makes great deals on demo and new glass as well.

That will be your best bet and will beat any deal you will get from any other store.

I have done the same. If you mention THF they will give you a discount. I bought a Zeiss scope from them last year and they had the best price of anyone.
