I' have my dad's Browning BBR in a 257 Roberts...I have never had much interest in the browning rifles, as I understand they use red lock tight on there barrels when they mount them so they are difficult to rebarrel...the little BBR and the two Abolt I have shot, shot extremely well....

The Browning A-bolt rifles shoot pretty good, but they have a very short magazine box. If you plan to reload for the A-bolt (and I think the X-bolt has the short mag box), they are very limited on what bullets you can shoot and seat them out beyond normal mag lengths. Any aggressive VLD or secant ogive design is difficult to load for in the A-bolt. I've owned a few, and never really got on board with them because of the short mag issue. Otherwise, a good rifle.

So the AB3 is still a part of the A-Bolt family, then? I don't reload or plan on it though lol

Abolt, Abolt II, and Abolt3

I've never handled an Abolt3, but I'm pretty sure the redesigned bolt won't be as smooth as that on an Abolt II, which is very smooth.

You can still find NIB Abolt IIs on Gunbroker.

postoak said "there's nothing a gunsmith can do to lighten it.". This is NOT TRUE. The X-bolt has a trigger than CAN BE lightened, and polished for smoother release just like any other gun. I've never used a gunsmith to do a trigger job on any gun I own. I do all of mine myself. The X-bolt while a little more challenging to get back together is still doable. You just have to be REALLY careful that you don't damage the fire control housing frame when putting it back together. The way they designed it you can easily break, or crack, the frame.

I presently own 6 Browning rifles and I LOVE them. I use them for deer & varmint hunting exclusively. They are well made, shoot almost as good as Savages, and just handle very well for me. They fit me ergonomically better than any other factory gun. When I put one up against my cheek in the firing position, it just feels like putting your hand in a glove. Everything lines up perfectly and the rifle feels like it is a part of me.

The A-bolt triggers are SUPER easy to lighten. Literally break open a ball point pen take the spring out, open up your A-bolt and exchange springs, and there you have it.. A trigger that is as light as 2 lbs. and as smooth as butter (if you polish the sear surfaces).

I'm looking at the Xbolt in .308

I should probably consider a rugged one with composite stock but when I look at the French walnut, it is hard to resist. Guess I'm just old fashioned.

Beautifully made guns indeed, but the lack of information on them has me confused. For reference, I'm more familiar with Vanguard, R700, T3, and I think the 510 Trophy-something-something by Savage.

OH WAIT....I've used a BAR a few times so I LIED...lol. But seriously, I'd love to get more information about the bolt guns Browning makes. Thanks smile

I have a BAR in 30.06, an A Bolt in .270, my son has an X Bolt in 7mm Win Mag and his wife has a .243 A Bolt.
I also have a A-5 12 ga. (new model) and 12 Ga Citori. I guess you could say we love those Brownings.

I based my statement on what the rifle-maker/gunsmith I use told me plus reading everything a google search returned. It would be great if someone posted a youtube video on the procedure for doing this.

I have two Browning Auto 5 Light 12's manufactured in the 60's, a Browning SA 22lr (late 60's or early 70's)...

I just bought in April a Browning BAR Safari w/boss 300 win mag and a week later bought a Browning X-Bolt Long Range Hunter Carbon Fiber/Stainless in 300 win mag.

The X-Bolt I am shipping back to them due to the stock (Duratouch) developing these bubbles on it.. The texture is still the same... ITs not sticky or anything but it just makes me sick to see it.. I knew not to get anything such as deet, chemicals, gun oil or anything like that on it so I was extra careful... Its not true bubbles but it just looks like it almost like they are under the surface... a bunch of opaque white looking bubbles like it has a rash or something... UGGGHHHH

Love mine in 270 win, very accurate, shoots really well with hornady sst 130's. The trigger is ok, but not great. As postoak stated Jard makes the only replacement trigger if you would like a better one. Some have mentioned replacement stocks. I haven't looked in a while. The last time that I looked there were none available. Mine is composite so I got it wrapped. That ran me $100.
I would 100%purchase another xbolt!!!
There is a spring that was available online for the trigger, someone named Ernie. He doesn't sale them any longer.
A gunsmith will not!! or at least mine wouldn't open up the trigger housing and polish.

Have one x-bolt already and just ordered another. Great accuracy and like everything about it, although I'm far from an expert.

Update on the Browning X-bolt Hell's Canyon SPEED in 6.5

Landed a box of 140 gr. Federal Fusion 140s. The rifle liked them MUCH better. Brought my 6" group down to a 3" group. However, that's still not acceptable to me in a 1000 rifle. I've changed the scope to eliminate the "X" factor of a brand new scope vs. one I know is solid. (New scope was a Nikon Prostaff Series 7. Old scope I just mounted is a Vortex Viper.)
