I'm pretty interested in the Millett 4-16 .1mil adj mil dot scope. I'm wanting to put it on my 7mm savage and shoot up to 1000 yards. I've lately been wanting to learn to shoot longer distances for fun. I'd also like to hunt deer with it if I want. I'm wanting to spend up to about $300. Since good deals will be out next week I figure if ask on here.
What do y'all think of that scope? What other scope do y'all recommend for long range shooting in my price range?

I had one a few years back, the scope was ok and tracked well but was real heavy. If you would like a couple of better options try the Primary Arms 4 x 14 x 44 mill/mill FFP Primary Arms Or better yet the SWFA 3 x 15 x 42 also mill/mill FFP, little more than your budget but for you trying to go 1000 yards, your better option. Watch for their black Friday specials coming up you mage get a better deal on pricing. SWFA

I just ordered an Athlon Argos BTR.
Check out those and the Athlon line, great price for FFP scopes.

I'm wanting to spend up to about $300. Those things are tough to get to go together. One of the most important things is properly tracking turrets. The Millet might do it, but you'd be wise to test it, at 100, before attempting a long shot with it.

I've researched a lot about the Millett and read mostly good things. Any other suggestions? Anyone have any of these? I want to know as much as I can for BlackFriday deals.

I would wait until I had more money or look for a used vortex pst
I got a millet when I first wanted a nicer scope. It did not work with a damn
If you want that price point I would look at the Leopold mark ar
Swfa Black Friday is usually 20-30ish% off so that should bring them closer to your price point

I get your point wanting a lifetime warranty. Vortex made the whole market better for us, in that many manufacturers had to follow suit and offer a lifetime warranty. However, it will be very frustrating if your scope does not track properly, frequently, and frequently it gets sent back to the manufacturer. A good portion of the cost of long range capable scopes is true and reliable tracking.

You may find closer to what your looking for in one of the fixed power SS scopes. I don't know much about fixed power scopes. The swfa ss seems nice. It has great reviews, holds up to big recoil, but does it track well? Any info on it y'all want to share? Years ago inhad a millet TRS. That thing was probably the biggest POS ive ever owned. Weighed a ton and wouldnt track for its life. We back to millet 5xs and woukd track for 3-4 outings and be off over an inch. Went to mueller and it tracked better but the glass was garbage, but they were all i could afford at the time. I have since moved on to SWFA SS, vortex, nightforce and S&B. If i offered any advise if yiu on a budget is to save a little longer and get the SWFA SS or find a good used vortex. Ask for an SWFA gift card for xmas if nothing else.

I might be on the short list of "who has worked an SS the hardest".
The SS 5-20X HD I have, has tracked perfectly for literally thousands of evolutions, over four years. Never a break down.

There's a good amount of people talking about tracking issues among other issues. I saw them before but figured I'd take the chance. I didn't think about having to pay every time I'd ship it to be fixed. I can spend more than $300. Just don't really want to. I don't see myself ever paying much over $300. I see there is the SWFA SS 10x and 16x for $300 right now. Is 10x ok to shoot longer distances? For hunting almost all my shots are 100yards or more, is 16x ok for hunting? I really like those scopes. I'd rather not but used.

I think 16X would be great for long range shooting but the 10X would be much better for hunting. You could go with a 12X.

I would focus on a hunting and get a 3-9 type scope I'm not sure on that. I use another gun for mainly hunting. This one might be mainly for long distance.

In that case, go with the 16X, but not the 20X. When is shoot 1k or more, I use all the magnification I have available, which has been 21X, as long as I can still see. But with a fixed power, you don't want to be hamstrung by a 20X, for when, not if, the mirage gets bad.

After reading this thread, I just wanted to confirm what others said. I have the more affordable swfa 3-15. I too am merely a beginner and only have shoot to 600 with some success. Know what little I've learned to thin point I think I'd go 10x or 12x fixed with the best glass u can find. And I think the swfa fixed is about the best fit at that budget.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

SWFA fixed 12x or 16x is what you want. I just picked up an SWFA 16x with SWFA rings the other day. Awesome deal with the trade-in offer they made me. Black Friday discount is even better.
