If I want to donate a deer or two to a processor to feed the hungry or what have you, do I have to pay anything or is it a true donation. How does that all work..thanks

The processor I use will donate the meat but you still have to pay all the fees.

If I am going to donate a deer, I donate it to the processor closest to our ranch. They charge the $50 to process the meat. I generally donate the meat from my bucks and keep the does. We are MLD, so generally no shortage of meat to be had.

Also, keep your receipts if you pay a fee for the processing of the donated deer as it is a charitable contribution and may be tax deductible.

Does it really go to the hungry? If I still have to pay for it, I will find a hungry family myself, already found one matter fact and generally do 2 a year.

Yes you have to pay. Yes it does actually go to charities that feed the hungry or to boys ranches etc.
They grind 100% of the deer into hamburger and stock food banks with it.
It is a good program and I think that if you get a receipt saying you donated it to HFH you can write off the fee.

Yes it feeds the hungry, one way or another. I think the total last year in Texas was close to 300,000 pounds of meat.

Too much to ask the processor to donate their time and effort to the charity. If you want to harvest the animal then you are responsible for getting it to the charity processed. Too many hunters just want to harvest multiple animals and donate the meat and not have to mess with it cause they don't like to eat it. I don't support that. If you want to donate the meat. Then pay for the processing.
