Im not saying all do but why doesLease hunters shoot everything that walks??? the lease next to us we hear 4-9 shots a weekend from the ranch.. We have some awesome deer on our ranch from management so with that said we have great genetics in the area. I understand they are paying to shoot deer but why do they have to shoot everything that walks.

How do you know they're not sighting in rifles? To answer your question, they paid their money and, if the landowner or lease boss doesn't have AND enforce specific rules, many lease hunters will use every tag they're allowed. And then some. They want meat and could care less about management of someone else's property.

Not the kind of lease I would be on personally, but it happens.

Because this is America flag

Not the type of lease I would like either but they are free to do what they want as long as the landowner approves.

No telling what they are shooting at, plus you may be hearing shots from multiple leases. I know not all lease hunters do this, 4 of us and 1 kid we have killed 11 in 6 years. Also how big is there lease? If your calling 300ac a ranch and they are leasing 5000 might be different.

I'm a lease hunter and very selective in what I shoot. I'm not out to fill every tag. However, there are lots of hunters out there that do wish to fill each and every tag that they possess.

How do you know they're shooting deer? Opening weekend there were 6 shots fired on our place and not one at a deer. Hogs, turkey, coyotes, etc. Could be MLD with a million does to shoot. Pretty big generalization to think ever shot you hear is aimed at a buck.

I hunted on a great ranch in Throckmorton for 13 years, shot 4 bucks. Our group is very selective.

I sure would love to get on a lead in Throckmorton. I'm super picky and enjoy the camping as much as the hunting

I have 3 leases and have never shot more than 2 deer per year on all 3 combined. I just like having options on where to hunt.

Yep. Many reasons to be shooting. Also, what are the numbers like? In our area, every hunter on our place can limit out and still not make a dent in the population. My household alone eats 4-5 deer per year, so guess what, I'm taking 4-5 deer. Chili, link sausage, breakfast sausage, frying meat, roasts, jerky, summer sausage, hamburger meat, backstrap-I bet I don't go 3 days without eating venison in some form, and on average it's probably 6-7 meals a week.

Given that I hunt about 10-12 days a year at our place, you're going to hear me shoot about 1/3 of the time.

Not everyone is management minded and like others have said they may not be shooting deer. Not everyone is ethical or honest either. I use to hear lease hunters shoot several times over the course of a morning and go check on them at lunch. Many times they'd claim not seeing anything, etc, when I know for a fact it was them that shot.

For some guys hunting is just a way to cut loose and get away from city life and they are there to have fun (like all of us).

On a MLD place I could shoot all day long. Also dove and duck season can overlap with deer season so depending on where you are you can hear a lot of shots from that too.

There are multiple phases or stages that apply to all hunters, with many never making it through all of them. Many never get past the "Limiting Out" phase and measure success by filling every tag on their license, even though they have no need for the meat. Still others get caught up in the "Methods" stage where they might frown upon anyone who doesn't kill them with whatever or however they feel offers the greatest challenge.

While some sources identify as many as six or seven different hunting stages, the most basic list appears at the link below.

Five Stages of Hunting

And if this is the hill country you are speaking of then it might be that they need to take that many deer off. I was on a lease in Mason and would take two of the five I was allowed. There were 8 of us total and maybe half of us would take five. The land owner worked with Texas parks and wildlife and needed to take more deer than we took so he brought orphans in and ex military and let them take deer in order to get to the numbers he needed to.

Maybe y'all have excellent deer on yalls ranch because the neighbors are helping keep the number of mouths at a lower amount. In some areas, you need to shoot a lot of deer. If they are seeing 9 deer a day worth shooting, then your area may be one of them.
