I took my youngest daughter with me to the lease this weekend. At the end of our trip she had killed her first deer and pig, The pig came flying out of the treeline to the feeder. Once the pig turned broadside she drooped him in his tracks with a perfect high shoulder shot.

After watching quite a few does and young bucks, one of the targeted deer showed up. To say she was nervous would be an understatement. The deer took forever to give her a good shot, but when he did she executed a perfect shot. I told her the deer likely would run off after she shot him and we would need to watch, as well as listen for him crashing. She settled in and when the deer turned broadside she took the shot. She looked up from her scope and said "i thought the deer was going to run off". That's right, she dropped the deer in it's tracks.

She also took a shot on a coyote and while I didn't recover, she hit him hard so I'm certain it's dead.

Two funny things from the weekend. We were pulling out of camp at 5:45 am and she's putting on mascara. I asked her why she was putting on makeup. She said "for pictures I need to have mascara on".

One of her friends asked what type of gun she used. Her response "it was one of my dad's guns with a muffler to make it quiet". I couldn't stop laughing when she referred to the suppressor as a "muffler".

I've only hunted for a few years, but the memories of my daughters hunting rates much higher than any of my own experiences. I can't wait until my grandsons are old enough to hunt and make those memories.

On a side note, I continue to be impressed by the 6.8 130 Hornady SST performance. She double lung her deer and dropped him stone cold dead. I'm convinced an AR chambered in 6.8 with an upgraded trigger is a great gun for youth and novice shooters.

Thank You
