Got drawn for the Chap mgmt hunt this year for Nov 28-30. First drawn hunt in 11 years so definitely looking forward to it. Any wisdom on what to expect on this hunt? I'm not a south Texas deer hunter so this will all be new to me.

Expect to see lots of trophy bucks that you can't shoot. Keep your eyes peeled for spikes. Have fun!

Went on this hunt a few years ago. Ended up taking a 7 pt.
Corn the senderos pretty heavily. Hunt all day, even though it may be warm with the activity of hunters in/out of compartments, they are likely to be moving all day. A portable tripod helps as well.

I went there several years ago. Do they still have the raised platforms sitting on the senderos? Pipe railing and expanded metal floor about 8' high...Deer probably know where they are at so a short tripod that you can easily move might be the trick to set up closer to where they are crossing.

Thanks for the great info. Hoping for cool weather, but also just glad to get to go. Hopefully I'll have some pics to share.

I went to the last buck hunt of the year and killed a wide 8 pt that was 7 1/2 years old. The advice they gave us was to stay away from the permanent stands. Those that didn't heed the advice saw deer at 200 yards and beyond. I set up 300 yards downwind of the stands and saw deer within 100 yards looking back at the stands.
One trick if you want to use a stand is to sit on the floor but don't let your head get above the sides. The Director pointed out the "peep holes" roughly cut in the side of the stands. I had one tower blind in a very tight spot looking down two very short sendros that formed a "V" with a brushy tank sitting inside the "V". Max shot down either sendero was about 70 yards. I figured out that I could sit on the expanded metal floor, wire the door slightly open, hang a bit of camo netting in the opening of the door, and see down both senderos. The problem was that it was near freezing with a pretty good wind that was whistling up through that expanded metal. After about an hour I will swear that my man parts were frozen to the expanded metal floor.
I would use the first afternoon for scouting and go with a good pop up wherever the deer are active.
