Iv seen rice oil, peanut oil, but is crisco veg oil ok to deep fry a turkey in? all this other stuff is so high... give me some thought here. thanks... as we are going to deepfry one for thanksgiving...thanks.

ok so i missed it. i just bought peanut oil at cabelas . probably the right choice. i never herd of rice oil..???

I didn't see it either, Bill. I've used Crisco before. It seems to burn a little easier than peanut oil but I hardly ever get to reuse it before it gets old anyway.

doesn't matter, just watch the temp. bring it to 350, drop bird, bring it back to 350, keep it there, no prob.

I use vegetable oil. In the US that means it's made of soybean. Plenty high enough smoke point for turkeys. Plus I feel it holds better throughout the year than peanut. I've had peanut go rancid. Never had veg do that.

agree with what others have said ... just make sure whatever oil you are using has a higher smoke point than the temperture you are cooking ... usually 350-375 for frying turkey ... go with something that is at least 400 degree smoke point and should be fine. Smoke Point of various cooking oils

There are lots of good oils for frying. Vegetable oil, corn oil, canola oil, peanut oil and several others will all give you good results. I typically buy canola oil because its the cheapest I usually find and has a high smoke point.
Smoke points vary depending on which source you look at. I know it is the most common go to, but I avoid peanut oil because it really to me has zero benefits over the rest, will almost always cost more because a lot of people think it the only thing you can fry with, and it is one of the more common food allergies.

Only have deep fried turkey once and that was a long time ago..... thanks for the input and happy thanksgiving..... shadowman..

I really like fried turkey. If nothing else keep the oil long enough to wait till after turkey day and they put them on sale and buy another turkey to fry.

Knowing the smoke point of oils is important because heating oil to the point where the oil begins to smoke produces toxic fumes and harmful free radicals
