I was out working on the window of one of the blinds when, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a solitary boar working his way toward my location. He was 80-90 yards away and busily rooting around as he went along. I had my 6PPC with me, loaded with one of my hand loads of 58 grain Hornady VMAX, 28 grains of I-8208, and a CCI BR-4 primer to set the whole thing in motion. This is not my favorite hog gun; I prefer something .30 caliber and up, so decided to wait him out, let him get as close as possible to make sure I could put the bullet exactly where I wanted to, and, at about 50 yards, I put the cross hairs on his left eye and pulled the trigger. He dropped like a ton of bricks; no squealing, very little kicking. I had my Judge on my hip, all loaded up with some rather stout .45 Colt loads, so I got down out of the blind and walked out to end his kicking, but by the time I got there, he had checked out. Called H for H and within 30 minutes a guy showed up, loaded the hog, shook my hand, and took off! I'm hoping that some needy families will wind up having a bit better holiday season by getting their bellies full of fresh pork!
