Because of telecommuting technology, I'm very fortunate to be able to work from just about anywhere, including my deer lease. With LTE access, I can access ANY corporate network application just as if I were in the office. Thankfully, our company has gotten well past the "butt in chair" management approach and measures employee output purely by the quantity and quality of their work outputs. As a result, productivity increases as workers spend more time working, and less time driving, talking, and visiting.

Obviously, telecommuting doesn't fit every job role. However, it does explain how many organizations are now producing more, with fewer people.

The only problem is making sure no one hears the nearby cows during those conference calls.

I practically live on an iPad and a laptop. The only time I'm away from them is when I'm on a deer stand.

That's one of the things you must be careful about telecommuting - staying online and being on a laptop or mobile device too often. Work hours never stop if you're not careful. Sometimes I get started working on a project at 6:30 in the morning and don't even stop to shower until the wife has supper on the table. Lunch is just a 15 minute break somewhere along the day.

I work remotely (from my house). My company is Japanese but we have a North American office in Los Angeles. It is very much a butt-in-chair company and getting worse. I could absolutely do my job from anywhere but my company is very strict. It's a pain in my butt.

I'm very fortunate that I can't take my work to our place.

I'm a police officer, so I have to be at work for my job. It's a great job though, even in today's environment

I don't get anything done when I am at work anytime, much less during deer season.

My wife works from home two days a week and she has the same issue on a daily basis, but her problem is more of how time works which seems to be one of those life long woman things men will never understand.

I get to work from home and haven't left the house for work purposes since August. Sometimes I do miss actual personal interaction and shooting the [censored] with other guys. But having a dress code of whatever is clean sure beats putting pants on.

I can do 90% of my work from anywhere that has internet. My boss is open that she doesn't care if we surf the net at work so long as we get our work done. But she is old school and big on butt in chair.
