how does it shoot with that short of a barrel? I have a marlin 45-70 as well with an 18in barrel. love the gun but a little disappointed that it didn't perform well with the slower more traditional loads in that short barrel. had to load it more modern to get it to perform at any distance.

my marlin iron sight (factory iron sight) shooting a Remington 405 standard load (muzzle about 1150-1200fps). I could max out my elevation adjustment and this bullet would still hit the dirt before it got to the paper at 50yds.

if I shoot a faster bullet at 1600-1800fps with the traditional 405 bullet it does fine. but the recoil is a little vicious. I can make due with it, but I had really planned on shooting the tamer traditional loads.

what sort of peep sight is that? what type loading to you shoot?
