I was just wondering what most people are going with for an aftermarket stock in say an older rifle with a wood stock. I have a bell and carlson but it more of a tactical stock. If I was buying a stock for carrying a lot in the woods what would yall go for? Wanting something that is light, durable, and obviously can handle bad weather well.

B&C makes a decent hunting stock. For true ultralight performance both mcm and manners make a CF but its $$$$. More money than id out in one unless i hiked alot

The Hogue with the rubber coating is nice. Can't say how it compares in weight. P_102

Obviously Boyd's has a good name in the business and I have friends with their stocks but I finally got around to ordering one for a build that I was putting together for my brother in law and I was blown away. It was a tricked out Pro Varmint laminate stock in their "Coyote" pattern. I was fortunate it that I got to do the purchasing on someone elses dime. To the point, I would order another one of their laminate stocks in a heartbeat... and plan to do so in the near future, ESPECIALLY for some of my older rigs that might need a refresh like my old Rem 721 in 300 H&H. Depending on the style, it can be as light or heavy as you wanted and laminate stock in general are generally very weather resistant and stable.

I'm gonna go ahead and be the first to say it....Hogue stocks SUCK. They might be an upgrade over a factory plastic stock but I'd argue the new Tikka T3 stocks are still better than the Hogues. I had one on a 10/22 for awhile and got rid of it as soon as I found a better option. I also ran one on a FN PBR before I upgraded to a FN SPR (with McM A5). Never again would I run a Hogue. When it comes to aftermarket bolt action stocks I've run McMillan, Bell & Carlson, Magpul, and Grayboe and they are all significantly better than the Hogue.
Grayboe is my new muse. I just got one of their Renegade stocks and for $319 it's pretty impressive. Pillar bedded and fiberglass. If you're looking for a more traditional stock they have their Outlander model that is only $249.

And if you want even lighter, go with the EH4 in carbon fiber. It's forend is 3-1/2" shorter. My 24" barrel looks like a 30 incher

Yeah I am not a fan of Hogue stocks. Seeing as I had one on my 700 20" tactical. I was trying to keep it under $200. So maybe boyds is the way for me to go. I bet the Manners is awesome. May try to go a little more than $200 and get another b&c.

I replaced my factory stock with a Houge overmolded stock. It's heavy but I love it on my 700 in 300 mag.

The reason I went with the houge is the heavier weight. I restocked with minor fitting and bedding. A light of a stock will increases the amount of recoil. I have had zero issues with the stocks.

I have a McMillan Game Scout on my hunting rifle.... it's a very nice premium stock, fits my needs well. and I was happy with the 4 week lead time. Much better than the 8-9 months I was going to have to wait for a Manners.

Gunstox.com has them for $249 shipped. I refinished one of my original wood Rem 700 stocks and it's now too pretty to hunt with. So I'm planning to get a Grayboe Outlander for it to use during hunting season.

Manners is my number one option. Great product and they stand behind it.
