This is my nine year old's first year actually hunting and being able to shoot his own deer. He's sat with me quite a bit over the last few years but wasn't able to shoot anything until this year. I bought him a 243 this year and he took full advantage.
We hunted a few mornings and afternoons after work in the rain and passed on quite a few bucks as I'd seen several older, much larger 8 pointers. We actually passed on this one the night prior, but he was starting to get antsy, so I went ahead and let him pull the trigger.
He was super fired up, and made me extremely proud. Made a perfect shot, buck ran about 15 steps and dropped like a rock.
