I blew up the picture and it looks like the shot is about midway up the body and further back then you'd like. Could very well be a liver hit if the deer was angling away.

Yes I would just sit and stare at him. Probably why the far back shot, he got nervous. Antlers not for ratteling.

My Dad lives in the county this deer was killed. There are a lot of giant deer around the Hendersonville, Gallatin area (North of Nashville). The problem is getting a lease. He lost access to his lease a few years ago because another land owner refused to give them right of way access through his property to get to his buddies place. Really crappy law in Tennessee but it is what it is.

Its a shame a guy has to do the "long arm" pose even with a deer like that! Drives me nuts.....

Naïve me did not even notice that..... I just thought he was using his knee to keep the deer on its side and had to reach out to hold the antlers based on his and the deer's body positions.
