I recently purchased a small ranch in Lampasas county (50 acres). And this is our first deer season on the place. We have been scrambling to get stands up and feeders going over the last few months. I have already been shooting a few big hogs, which is what I love to do more so than deer hunt. I was showing my Dad some pics of the bucks showing up and he got excited! He hasn't deer hunted since before I was born. I new it was time to get serious about getting him a buck. Opening day the deer were moving a ton, I was in my stand about 350 yards across the pasture from where I put my Dad and could see some does at his feeder. My daughter was walking out to my stand to spend the afternoon with me so I let Dad know on the radio to not shoot until She was safely in my blind. He said he was going to shoot one of the big does feeding when it was safe. Right on cue, Sam got in my blind and shut the door and a shot rang out. I called him on the radio to confirm a hit. His voice was shaking and he said after he watched my daughter through the binos he turned around and the "biggest buck he had ever seen" was standing by the food plot watching the doe he was about to shoot. He said he shot him good and he kicked and ran off. We gave it some time and we walked over. I helped dad out of his stand and got to tracking. I found him in a pile not 20 yards from where dad shot! This is not only my Dad's first deer in a long time but also the first deer to be shot on our new ranch! I'm mounting him and he's going right next to the door in the cabin. Along with a pic of my Dad. He's not a monster but still a solid mature 10 point. Its one of the better deer we have running around our little piece of heaven. I am very glad we have this story to share around camp now. Dad just turned 70 so I am hoping to get him a few more good ones before he hangs it up.

Great memory and awesome. I really like the idea of the mount with photo next to it. I would also type up a nice memoir story to include in the picture frame. Congrats!

Wow that is to cool how everything came together. Your dads first buck since before you were born on your new property, about to shoot a doe but had to wait for Sam (granddaughter) to get in your blind and dad ends up with a buck, does not get much better than that, congrats cheers
