Is it too late in the year to throw some of these out down around my creek in the woods?

http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/evolved-harvest-throw-n-grow-extreme-oats-5-lb?cm_vc=IOPDP1

Do I need a fertilizer with this product or is it literally just go throw it on the ground?

Have "spot" planted oats n wheat in bare spots of plots for years. My granddad taught me years ago to make sure ground is level and soil is exposed, would use leaf rake to disturb soil the scatter seeds and " dust" them over, never failed to fill, I have done this all the way thru December, oats have worked best, have had good luck with "horses feed oats" . texas

Hunted for years in Llano county. Landowner wouldn't allow us to till soil for planting. We'd take some of the molasses and pour it over the cactus and let the pigs eat it up. They'd come back and dig up the roots of the cactus. viola! tilled soil. We'd toss out the wheat or oats or whatever and rake it in. Instant mini-food plot.

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

Just buy regular whole oats from TSC. If it makes soil contact and gets rain it will grow.

Ok, my other question. I don't want to disturb the ground too much. If I don't clear the grass will the pats grow through it? I know not all will make it to the ground but will the majority of it grow? Should I burn a weekend mid season to clear a spot?

You can literally just scratch the ground with a garden rake, broadcast oats and then turn the rake over and drag over what you scratched. It's that easy. Not all of it will come up but with enough moisture a lot of it will.

This. Use a garden/dirt rake and get after it. You don't need to dig it too deep, just scratch it good.

If you have hogs just pour out a bunch of corn.... when gone just toss oats there.

If you have good soil, try some turnip seed in there as well. It usually does well when. Roadcast. They eat just the tops and center and it keeps growing.

I tried something new this year - was easy, and is working well:
bought a $9 bag (50#) of whole oats (horse feed) and broadcast seed first- THEN I mowed the area.
no tilling, and no raking after (the mowed grass/weeds 'covered' the seed like a mulch).
Its working GREAT; I'll try to get a pic soon ....
