Nice phone camera tripod. Love the duct tape. Dog is soft mouthed. Good job! Son looks like he is having a blast. Way to go Dad!

How many coveys? How did the pups do? Don't cut the heads off first. Try this; [quote=bill oxner]I start by cutting off the wings and lower legs. It's important to leave the head attached. There you have a whole skinned quail. Next, you pull the leg over the back, and pull the legs off one at a time. It's best to pull from the front to the back. Here you have a whole quail with the legs and thighs removed and in the pan. You could see that I had the quail by the head with my right hand. Just pull the head and neck off and the intestines come with it.. You can see that I have the breast in one hand and the head with the backbone and guts in the other hand. Notice that my hands are still clean I've done them every other way that's known, but this has always worked best for me. I can do them as fast as a helper can clip the wings and feet. [/quote
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Bill, looks good. I'll try that method next time. Thanks 16 coveys Friday, about 12 Saturday. My hunting buddy got tired of pulling brush by 10am day 2. Pups did well:
Black and white female loves to hunt dead and will retrieve birds to me. Found every downed bird I put her on except one cripple. She hesitated on one cripple and let it get away, but after that she became more aggressive about grabbing bird if it fluttered. Lots of prey drive and is always ahead of orange male. However, she does not want to point or back so far.
Orange male wants to point. Pointed a couple of dead birds and one live one. Live bird that he pointed got up and got brush between us and I could not get a shot.
Both pups got lots of experience this weekend (good or bad) I did shoot directly over them a couple of times and I did see some reaction, but they both got right back in the game with enthusiasm.
Hoping more exposure to wild birds will help.

Good job. I'd never trust a vet that didn't have a little redneck in him.

This is greatness. I'm looking forward to sharing the same experiences with my 6 year old son and our drahthaar pup.
Yeah, don't listen to me. I'm just an idiot.
Lol. Duckbill that was funny! The dude up top has already taken lots of bone before this deer, both mule and whitetail.

Awesome. Thanks for the pics. Still a few weeks out for me.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.
