Lookin to re-barrel a 30-06 to a 25-06 and would like some recommendations as for the best barrel that I can afford. Budget will be no more than 500 but would like to stay as far under that as possible. Less I spend on a barrel the quicker I can buy a stock

Is that you're total budget or just your budget for the barrel itself? You'll need to consider gunsmith work, painting, and also you might as well have your action trued while the factory barrel is off. A good barrel is going to run you around $300-350 if you're looking at Bartlein, Krieger, etc.

Look at bison gun works, I have 2 X caliber barrels and shoot just as good as my Douglas, or Shilen. Or a remage conversion, Criterion which is kreigers sister button barrel company is a great choice well under 500.

Hart, heavy contour, match grade stainless is my preferred. I also have a Douglass XX match moly barrel that is super accurate, but still prefer the stainless.

I have the same Hart on my .308. It's the heat.

If I had a budget of $500 for the barrel and I wasn't in a rush, it would be a no-brainer for me......Bartlein.

$500 will buy you most any non-carbon wrapped barrel on the market. Bartlein, Schneider, Rock, Krieger, Hart, Lilja, or half a dozen others will be great. The gunsmith you choose will matter a lot more than which of the top end barrel makers you pick. I have had great results with Hart and Schneider. My gunsmith likes Hart so that's usually what gets screwed on.

$500 for barrel alone or with the smith doing his thing? because not even a Shilen or Douglas with head spacing, chambering, fitting, and threading will do it for $500.
