Sad as it is we're going to be some of "those guys" that are going up Saturday but to finish some things that we haven't gotten around to yet. Changed leases sort of late this year and just ran out of time getting the new one set up.
Things normally don't get good in the panhandle until mid November anyway.

I'm going to get things done at camp. My blind still isn't finished and got a ton of things to do at camp. Like MikeC, we didn't get on this lease until late and have run out of time. Not to mention this is my busiest time of the year at work. I'm working 60+ hours a week right now that includes Friday night football games. Thankfully, south Texas doesn't get good until mid December.

I might not make it. Didn't care to fight opening weekend traffic on Friday and Sunday anyways.

I haven't missed an opening weekend in 54 years ... almost did one year due to being in CO on an elk/MD hunt, got home about noon on Sunday and headed to the lease for an afternoon hunt. Funny thing about it, I was sick of hunting after 12 straight days for hiking at 9000+ feet but by the time I got back to central TX, I was already primed and fired up for whitetail. My wife was not very pleased that I was only home for maybe an hour after being gone for almost 2 weeks before heading out again. I've already taken a couple does, so have meat in the freezer, waiting on the big boy to show up.

I've decided to sit this one out since I hunted every weekend in oct.. I know I'll regret that decision Saturday morning..

I have never missed an opening morning before, but due to being a high school football coach, I will miss this one. Luckily though, I will be out there Saturday evening.

yeah I haven't missed an opener ever but that's how it goes I guess. I will just get the play by play from my dad and brother. For us next weekend is better cooler weather anyway...

Going to Arkansas to check in on mother(95). The deer can wait. Not like I haven't bow hunted 20 times.

My kid has a soccer game at 9:00 on Saturday and my land is about an hour away. So not going Saturday a.m.

We have a big fundraising auction for my kid's school Saturday evening. So not going Saturday p.m.

I'm going to drink a ton and stay up pretty late at the auction Saturday night. So (probably) not going Sunday a.m.

Sunday night is looking pretty good though.

Headed down Friday morning....get camp situated....will be in the bow blind by 3:00 for a final attempt with the crossbow...will be in one of four blinds throughout the weekend.

I hate to ay it, but it depends on the weather. I've only missed a couple openers since '76 due to being overseas or deployed. This weekend is calling for rain and high 70's. I don't feel like sitting in a stand swatting skeeters and skinnninga deer in the rain. I guess I just ain't that mad at 'em any more.

Have not missed an opening in about 38 years and won't miss this year. Everything is set and ready to go.

I went opening day of MLD and took an axis doe. Spent 11 days up in Colorado either setting up camp or hunting. Managed a nice 5x5 bull. I've got the steaks cut and burger/jerkey parts ready, now all I need to do is package it up for the freezer. PIcked up some breakfast sausage I had a packer make for me. I'll try that out in the morning. I'll have to eat down a shelf or two before I need to pick up a deer/axis.

Already had four weekends so far. I'll let the gun hunters stir them up this weekend and get back after them next weekend.

I'll be heading to Cabo Saturday. Hunting the next weekend.

Will be doing Traffic control for all those who served us in the annual Veterans Day Parade here in San Marcos....Wifes 12th Annual Dam Chili Cookoff in Martindale(to support The Youth Service Bureau) the following weekend...Hopefully Thanksgiving ???

I think I have only missed one opening weekend of Deer season in my adult life and that was because of circling the drain with Necrotising Fasciitis flesh eating disease months earlier. And too it was from a puncture wound I got at the lease. Thought I was going to miss the second opening of Deer season of my adult life as I was unable to get off work and can't spare the sick time because I lost all of it during my recovery. Not to say I would call in sick just to Deer hunt if I did have the time. But someone just gave up the vacation time last minute and I was first on the waiting list for it. So sorry to y'all that can't go. I am going now.
