Too much BLM, State and NFS to mess with a lease. Bird numbers should be really good across NM.

There are no leases in NM. Lots of public land such as state trust and BLM land to hunt. There can be access issues to get to the public land. Ranchers lease the public land to graze cattle on. They occasionally get mad and lock it up, But that's another story. A good map like a Delorme atlas will identify public lands. They also have programs for GPS now a days that will do the same thing. I live in NM for just the reason described above. I occasionally have done guided horse back quail hunts in the past. I will not this year. I work for NM Dept. of Agriculture. One of my jobs is to annually inspect livestock scales for ranchers. Needless to say, I never lack for a place to hunt. If you wish to hunt in NM. Get a good public lands map and if you are walking to hunt key on water. Do not bring your 4 wheeler. It is illegal to use one on public land in NM. You can only drive it on established trails. That is why I hunt off a walking horse.
Hope this helps.

Bird numbers should be really good across NM. so what you are saying is, its not worth leasing from a private land owner because there is too much "free" land. I have been approached by a land owner who i hunted pronghorn antelope asking me if i wanted to come hunt quail either on a lease or a 4 day deal.... we haven't talked price so I was just checking around. I saw tons of blues while pronghorn hunting.....

size is more acres than i could hunt, 70,000 acres.
I think he is wanting to lease several different pastures average size 5-7000 acres.

Not an area I would consider quail hunting let alone leasing. Far better areas to hunt. I've hunted bobs north of Tucumcari down to Portales - few and far between. To me NM quail hunting is scales/blues down in the SE corner or gambles and mearns in the mountain foothills. location is close to Santa Rosa
