Been doing it for 4-5 years now with great success. Do it only in the afternoon about 2pm. Thinking about starting a run about an hour before I walk out to the stand in the morning. Should I have started earlier during the year? Even in e.texas, the deer are waiting to come out after I spread. Feeder goes off at 7am, get to stand at 6 spread at 5. Sound good?

I spread corn every morning and afternoon before my hunt (hour before). The deer like you said will get use to this and will be there waiting.

peep It can't hurt.

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

if you want them to stay a little longer, try 1 or 2 liter bottles, deer will roll them around to get the corn

Can you explain what you mean by road feeding? I'm game for just about anything to up my odds, just never heard of this term.

Instead of or in addition to your normal feeder, you attach a road feeder to your vehicle and scatter corn in different locations as you drive around the pasture. It works and it's also good to get the deer to be less spooky about vehicles.

Spreading corn in a sendero. The road referred to is not a public road.

Anybody have one of the road feeders from Buccees? I believe it's in All-Seasons for less than $100. I'm thinking about picking one up this weekend.

I could be completely wrong, but all of the All-Seasons road feeders I've seen were north of $200.

I've got right at $140 in my Foreverlast from Academy and couldn't be happier with it. $99 for the feeder and $39 for the receiver mount kit. The remote wire is long enough to hook the feeder into the back receiver on a 4 door, long bed pickup, and have the remote in the drivers seat.

All Seasons and Texas Hunter Products both make good road feeders. My cousin is actually the warehouse manager at Texas Hunter. I had a foreverlast, it was a nice little feeder but glad I used it on a 4 wheeler as getting in and out of vehicle to open it sucked the few times I did have to do it.

We got the one from Bucees last year. For the money it is okay, remote is long enough to reach inside veh or utv. However, if you do not close the damper/spill it will allow to much corn to flow down on to the spinner while your driving/bouncing and then when you hit the remote on to throw and it will not throw and is the PIA (with hand/stick etc) to clear out enough corn to allow spin to operate. Thus, recommend each time you reach a place you want to start feeding, get out open slide, feed, get out close slide and drive on to next area.

I have been using one since 1989 with tremendous success. I will not hunt without using one. I even use it to feed right before I get into my bow stands in the morning and evenings. During rifle season I sometimes have to park as close to the blind as I can as deer will be on the corn before I can get into the blind. What I like is you can train deer to it and then place the corn where you can hunt the wind better. Nothing better in South Texas for finding a big old buck before the rut and they are on a feeding pattern. I have a homemade road feeder that will not drop any corn unless the motor is running. It is crude looking mechanism but it has worked now for the last 15 years.

Only way to hunt in South Texas, I have the all seasons 100lb with the eliminator. $250 about five years ago from Lyssy & Eckel's.

'Have a Texas Hunter Products and very pleased with it. It'll plug into (2 points of) a 4-way or you can use a deer feeder battery. The Auto-type remote works with either. 'Can't believe how far that company has come since the beginning; I know it's been bought and sold a couple of times.

They still manage to make crappy blinds compared to their competition but still manage to get top dollar on them.

I used to do this when I hunted in Florida, but I was doing it for the pigs. Very few deer where I hunted, but a ton of pigs. I would get in the jeep, put it in 4wd low, and just take my foot off the clutch. Then I would take a bag of corn, set in in my lap, stab it with a knife, and hung the hole in the bag out the door...or more specifically, the opening where there was no door. When that bag was empty, I would replace it with another one that was sitting on the passenger seat. Would take about 2-3 beers to cover the whole property. Next morning, I would do the same thing, but replace the bag of corn with a rifle and the beer with coffee. Almost always found pigs.

They're blinds are a completely different subject, but I agree...they're crap. But, I sit in crappy blinds (LO provided) that make their blinds look like the Taj Majal.

Tailgate feeders are the bomb!

Had an HVAC guy with a machine shop fabricate one for us a few years ago....holds #300...total cost was right at $180 with the push button remote....we usually mount it when we get there, fill it up and if that truck leaves camp we're feeding.

I avoid feeding too early in the morning. I've done it in the past only to have deer get on the corn, eat their fill and move on all before the sun comes up.

I feed immediately prior to getting into the stand.

The other issue is that if you feed an hour before getting in the stand you'll run deer off as you head to the stand.

I generally park right at the stand. Once they're used to the truck they won't pay any attention to it.

tailgate feeders are great. Like others have said, I feed around my blind right before each hunt. By the end of the season, there are usually deer feeding before I can park the truck.
