Hello all. I'm fairly new to hunting. Last year I hunted with my FIL on his lease in Menard. I was hooked and found my own lease in Polk county. I have put up the essentials and started to see a yearling on my camera feeding day and night. Well 2 weeks ago I go to check my camera and see the first buck. I went back today to do last minute things and check the camera again. Now he is feeding every other day and doe have started to move on my feeder. He is definitely chasing from what I can tell. I'm so excited that I even have a mature buck at feeder! I just wanted to share with you guys. Thank you for all the useful information posted on here.

I think you're going to have a great season. Welcome to the forum.

Hey I'm new to Texas so I'm learning the ropes and finding out quickly you need to get a lease. If you don't mind me asking how much does a lease set you back and what are some usual rates I can expect?

Thank you Creek and hope so too. As far as getting a lease it all depends on the location, acreage, amount of hunters, and amenities. Did I mention location? Rates will run you from a case of beer to your first born.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

That will make some fine eating.
I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

That's a solid buck. If you are new to hunting, I'll offer a little bit of insight. The rut is a crazy time to hunt. Every year, we see bucks during rut that we don't have pics of on any of our game cameras and we have a lot. Bucks will travel for miles to breed so don't be surprised if another nice buck or two show up and don't be surprised if you don't see this buck during the rut. He'll likely be back if that's the case. Also, we see lots of bucks just bypass the feeders during rut. If you aren't seeing anything during your sits, go find a trail that does use regularly and set up there. This could be trails between bedding areas and feeding areas for example. One thing is for sure, during rut, if you find the girls, the boys aren't far behind.
Good luck and happy hunting.
Keith
