Without using Google I can tell you it has different unrelated meanings.

It's short for the name of the town where they are made.....Tikkakoski I believe (spell check necessary I'm sure).

Raider's comment sounds right. The word SAKO is an Anglicized contraction of a word that's about 40 letters long.

During the recent move I came across a couple hard bound books in Finnish, with an English supplment, that is the history of the SAKO Company, complete with some really old pictures. I think I know where it is, and will dig them out later this week and update this thread with the Correct Spelling of the name that "SAKO" comes from.

I've seen some literature where the name Tikkakoski is mentioned as part of the address, including a couple business cards I picked up in Finland during the Principals Meeting I was a guest at in 1984. I always try to pickup "Souviniers" anywhere I go from ashtrays from a place I liked to eat in London to ??? like the luggage tags that ID'd my suitcase's as oringinating in the RSA, or Tupleo Mississippi...

Edit: Found a photo album from the trip with some of the business cards for some of the guys I hunted with in Finland in '84 had dual addresses on their business cards like this one from a good friend of mine in the International Marketing Dept for both companies, before Beretta bought the whole operation.

SAKO TIKKA
11100 Riihimaki SF41160 TIKKAKOSKI
Finland Finland
Tel 368-14-37-444 Tel 358-41-751 511
Telex .....yadda yadda

** Well JP's not gonna waste band wiidth and allow the address's to be seperated here, like they are on the business cards, but ya'll get the idea.

The cards I have from brand specific people only have one or the other address, & not both like the Company Officers have, but are ID'd under the same corporate name "OY SAKO-TIKKA AB", as of some time in mid 1984, before we arrived for the Business Meeting at the end of October that year.

Ah ha!! Woodpecker...got to be true. All the old Tikka printed material I've ever seen used the same logo that they are still using on the gun cartons and owners manuals.

Been shooting them for almost 20 years now, starting with the 695 in 7Mag. I've had 5 of them so far and they've all been boringly accurate. Nice shootin' RedSnake.
