Looking to take my 14 year old son on a goose hunt during the Thanksgiving break. What places/guides do you guys recommend? My son lives in Georgia with his mom and comes here when he has school breaks. He lives for hunting but only gets to do it here. We are relatively new to bird hunting. We've duck hunted on our own the past two years here on Lake Palestine with very limited success. For Christmas last year I took him duck hunting with Cody Malone out of the Lake Fork area and it was a blast but the birds were scarce due to thunderstorms. I would like to take him somewhere a little further away and get after some geese or even ducks again. I would love to do one of the cast and blast type fishing/hunting combos down on the coast but that will probably be out of my budget. Thanks for your input!

I haven't hunted with them, but I found an outfit called Double J outfitters. If your son is 15 or under, I think they have a father/son deal of $250 for a goose hunt. Calling the, to check it out.

Any good sized lake in Texas will have birds. If you're willing to scout, go out before daybreak and see what's flying at first light, you'll find birds. Folks that say there's no birds are either not looking hard enough or pumpin you full of sunshine to discourage you from finding the X.

Thanks for the replies guys! Mike I actually found a post by someone connected to Double J in the outfitters section shortly after posting this and sent them a message. Haven't heard back yet but that definitely looks like a decent option. aerangis, I agree but I think our limited success hunting on our own has been to my inexperience hunting birds and being limited on where we can get in and get to in our kayaks here locally. I'm not sure yet if he is going to be able to come here for Christmas this year so I would like to find a decent guide service and book a hunt during the Thanksgiving break so he can have a better chance at success. Thanks again for your replies!

So it is going to depend on where the geese are but these are some of the guys I hunt with: Specks/Blues/Whites (South Texas/Eagle Lake/Garwood) Avian Skies Third Coast Matt Mauger Canada Geese/Whites (West Texas) MWO I have hunted with each of these and have good luck. Call early to book.

If you want to kill geese go north west. Those snows are the spawn of Satan.

depending on the cold fronts we have between now and thanksgiving take him to Knox/Haskell outfitters: ranger creek goose, stanfield outfitters or webfoot connection in the peanut fields. Better finishing birds with dark geese. You will at least kill 2 birds per person as the specks are already there...if we have the weather in time the little canada's will be there. On the coast we are predicting good hunting due to a large snow goose hatch but the big push is mid december with only mild/moderate numbers of snows by thanksgiving

Thanks for all the helpful info guys! I've never been goose hunting before so it's hard to decide which route to go!

You go snow goose hunting once. The decision will be real easy next time.
