I've got one. Good rifle, especially for the price. It's certainly as good as any other AR at the price. It's Mil-Spec, so parts and components are interchangeable. It has some built in QD ports for attaching a sling. The front sight is milled and looks better than the standard "pig iron" looking sight on most AR's.

First thing you'll want to do is swap out the awful 8+lb trigger. I easily installed a Rock River 3lb trigger. Much improved.

During break-in keep it clean and well lubed. I've have no malfunctions with mine. It's probably close to 1000 rounds down the tube so far. No complaints on my end.

If I were to purchase a piston driven AR, that is what I'd get. So far DI works for me.

Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

Pros - tight, reliable, precise, bag + 3 mags, good flip up sights, good value, good quality

Cons - starts at $1600 and above, so not a 'cheap' AR

You should find new places to shop. GragAGun has one for $1085, CDNN $1199.

I've had 2, and the same one twice. I tried so hard to love this rifle. Everything mentioned above is correct. But for me the thing was just too heavy for me for the kind of stalk hunting I was doing at the time.

not exactly the same gun I was referring to

the one on GrabAGun does not have flash hider, and didn't say anything about
Carry Bag, 3 mags

there are several variants of the SR-556

They are both good guns; the AR is entry level and for the money I think you get a lot more bang for your buck with the Ruger over the other entry grade AR's out there.

Gunbroker has them for just over $600 delivered

If I was buying an entry level AR I would certainly check the Ruger and the new S&W M&P before I bought anything else.

What about Colt Expanse? I have it narrowed to Ruger, S&W and Colt Expanse. I think laugh

I've heard good things about the Ruger ARs. S&W M&P ARS are solid.

I have a SR556 E model that's been 100% for the entire time I've owned it. The weight doesn't bother me a bit. They're heavier than your DI ARs, but not prohibitively so.
