I have a 155" 3yr old 11 pt that was a 6" spike at 1.5. Because he was born in November.
He'll be a 180" 5 yr old when he dies. Only a fool would kill young spikes. Of course, it's not a bad thing there are a lot of fools. Success is easy. Calling others a "fool" over their management plans really shows your level of intelligence and experience in the matter. Tongue in cheek buttercup. My bad. I thought we could take a little light ribbing. Not really. That's what you really think from several posts on here. Contrary to your beliefs there are other management plans that work besides your own. Lol

Lol Openly stated on this thread and others that I'm not against killing young spikes if antler growth isn't your priority.

It all depends on what is going on in the area I am hunting. Right now where I hunt, they extended the doe season 16 days in to gun season because there are just way too many does. For the bucks in the area, we have some pretty nice mature deer but not many and a lot of the neighbors who used to lease the land around my buddies property are not letting people hunt on their land anymore. Other houses have been sold and the new owners don't hunt too so the bucks in the area will have a chance to mature. So we won't shoot spikes now. Two years ago we would have because everyone around the property were shooting anything that moved and getting a buck to come in during hunting time was like seeing Bigfoot lol. Just doesn't happen every day. We now have a large population of mature does in the area and want to let the bucks get back to a healthy number. We are more in to filling our freezers than getting a nice wall mount. But we gotta keep the herd healthy.

If spikes should be a protected class because they are behind, then why are you allowed to shoot two in AR counties? Where I hunt mule deer in New Mexico spikes and does are off limits, you must shoot a buck with at least one forked horn.
