Hello folks,
I'm hoping you can help me answer a question I couldn't seem to answer for myself after reviewing the Texas Parks and Wildlife website. I am in Leon County, and I see that we have an early and late youth season. My question is this: apart from the first 16 days of the regular season, can my 14 year old son take a doe during the early or late youth season?
Thanks for the help.
Adam

I think I found my answer here http://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdoor-annual/regs/animals/white-tailed-deer:
Bag limits, take of antlerless deer, and special requirements:
"For the remainder of the state, the bag and permit requirements are the same as for the first two days of the general season in the county (see County Listings)."
I interpret that to mean, yes, my son can take a doe during youth seasons since doe are allowed on the first two days of the general season in Leon County.
Would anyone agree?
Thanks again.

I was wondering the same thing... first time bringing my son to youth season. After reading Madison county first 16days (5th-20th) it doesn't look like he can because youth season is oct 29-30
Looks like Leon is the same regulations. I may be wrong. I don't know

Yes - per the TPWD website:
YOUTH SEASON
Bag limits, take of antlerless deer, and special requirements: •In Delta, Ellis, Falls, Fannin, Franklin, Freestone, Hopkins, Hunt, Kaufman, Limestone, Milam, Navarro, Rains, Smith, Titus, Upshur, Van Zandt and Wood counties, the bag and permit requirements are the same as the period Nov. 24-27, 2016 for each respective county (see County Listings); and •For the remainder of the state, the bag and permit requirements are the same as for the first two days of the general season in the county (see County Listings).
LEON COUNTY
General Season Nov. 5, 2016 - Jan. 1, 2017
Antlerless Deer: If permits have been issued for the harvest of antlerless deer, they must be attached to all antlerless deer harvested on the tract of land. On all other tracts of land in this county, antlerless deer may be taken without permits during the first 16 days of the season, (November 5-20). After the first 16 days of the season, (November 21–January 1), antlerless deer may be taken by antlerless MLD permit or LAMPS permit only. On tracts of land for which LAMPS permits have been issued, no LAMPS permit is required for the harvest of antlerless deer during the archery-only or muzzleloader-only open season.

Only in counties that DO NOT have doe days and ONLY BY PERMIT, a youth cannot shoot a doe unless they have a permit. Other than that, a youth can kill a doe on youth weekend.

My kids have always tried to take a doe in youth season . That is the first time of the year deer can be taken with a rifle in our county, other than being MLD or LAMPS. I have also taken other kids from the neighborhood in hopes of exposing them to hunting in a positive way. This year I only have one kid that fits the youth requirements so we have 2 of his buddies going to fill the void of his older brother and sister. We miss big brother, he's serving his country and well sis, she gets to help me cook this year .
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.
