Looking for recommendations on quality handheld or gun mountable spotlight for hog and coyote hunting. Priorities are long lasting, quality, distance, and battery life. I have a small surefire I like and middle of the road stream light Ive used with lens but neither are up to the task. Not really interested in night vision costs. I have got to get more serious about hog removal. Looking at wicked lights. Would prefer something I can order on amazon.

should say attempting to manage hog population not removal.

Whatever you choose...be certain it is Wavelength specific LED. Do not use 'filtered' light.

Expect arguments for Red or Green.

I have the XLR250 in green and I'm really happy with it from 100-250 yards. My friend has the red and it is better for inside 100 yards.

Wicked Lights 402ZF. With quality optics and good weather conditions youll be able to identity animals at 300-350yards. The elusive wildlife xlr250 is good out to 200 to identify. The elusive wildlife 750HD in my opinion is a small step down from the 402ZF. I tried the Coyote Light, it may be a little better than the 402ZF but not worth spending the extra 200$ on. I prefer red.

Wicked and Sniper both make great lights. Most are very similar. You just need to look at the options that each light gives you. Such as Dimmer, Different color LED's, Ability to scope mount or handheld, and remote switches. You can compare them over at www.NightHuntingDepot.com

I own four different lights, but one of them is so old and down-level it's not in contention.

Elusive makes a very good light with a few mounting options
VRL-1 makes a great light with a few more mounting options
Wicked is my "go to" light because it has lots of mounting options and is very powerful.

You pretty much cannot go wrong with any of these; it gets down, as usual, to what you want and what you are willing to spend.

I've got the wicked 403, got it brand new on Craigslist for $200 from a guy that never opened it. Comes with two lights, multiple lenses, and mounting bracket. Can't beat it for the money even at $350.

Did I mention. BRIGHT. No exaggeration, it will find eyes at 300+yds.

Does anyone find that mounting a light on a scope effects accuracy?

It can, indeed, warp the scope a bit as you tighten down the mounting screws. By all means, check your zero after you mount your light!

Pick you up one of these. The best light on the market.

Elusive wildlife does make a good one, but my favorite is my red coyote reaper by predator tactics. I have both elusive wildlife and predator tactics. The predator tactics light I have is red and can shine up to 400 yards plus. One thing I like about it over the elusive wildlife you can twist the end so the light beam will spread out further. If you spread the beam out it takes away the distance but the beam is not as intense for those close range shots.

Picked up a Cyclops VB250 kit at Academy for $89. Comes with white and green LED elements. They also carry another version that has green and red LEDs instead for $139. You get a flimsy plastic case, a 2nd battery, and a dual charger instead of single. I couldn't see squad with the red LED, and the white LED is great for general use, so the $89 package is a better deal IMO.

I know that I am late for the party, but if you want a spotlight for other uses take a look at the Ultimate wild spot lights. It uses a filter, but weighs exactly 1 lb. and has pretty good battery life.

The best American made lights are the Coyote Light if you want gun mounted . For general scanning while someone else shoots the FireEye made by Foxpro which has all 4 Color LED in one light by pressing a button is top notch. I have yet to run the FireEye battery down in one night of scanning.

I have used a lot of lights for hog hunting and it seems to me that hogs can be spooked much easier with green light than red light.
