For some reason I thought I remembered the government got involved a couple years ago about stuff they know nothing about and made it to where you have to have a special permit or something to shoot those, even behind a high fence. Not 100% on that however. that is correct

It is my understanding that shooting it is illegal about like shooting a neighbors livestock that stray. Not sure though.
About 15 years ago I had an immature bull elk on my place. I called the GW and he called the owner about 25 miles away. The guy called me and told me to shoot it if I wanted to. He didn't see any way to corral and bring it back. I saw it several times but decided it wasn't hurting anything and I enjoyed watching it. No idea what happened to it.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.
