some of you saw my other post a bit ago about the Swaro X5.....having to have a project at all times, I'm thinking about selling my Wnchester Pre 64 featherweight .243 and my new Ruger #1 in 6.5 Creedmoor, taking the cash and buying a high end scope for my 6.5 LR/Fclass rifle.

First kicker NO VORTEX PLEASE

My budget is $3000ish,

My conundrum would be, do I go for the Swaro X5 "hunting" scope or do I go for a more mainstream optic geared more to target/tactical???

The reason I ask this is I'm sure I will be selling this rig one day, which scope will bring more $$ "return"

I once built a dedicated F-Class rifle in 7mmWSM, I had it built as a single shot, NO DBM. This mistake cost me allot of $$ when I sold it.

I already know JG's answer, flag

You could pick up a lightly used or maybe even a new S&B in that price range, there are some pretty good deals on the PMII scopes right now because S&B is releasing some new optics. I've been extremely pleased with my S&B 5-25x56 and really love the H2CMR reticle. I've compared it side by side with quite a few high end scopes from different manufacturers and haven't found anything I'd rather have.

Buzz, you're killing me!

I know I've never gotten my money back on any custom or semi-custom I've sold, so I'm with you on the mistake deal.

If I were going to seriously twist turrets, I'd have to go NF, SWFA, or Bushy HDMR.

I suggest you sign-up at "Bruno's Shooters Supplies". Every so often I receive a email sales offer for Nightforce & other high end scopes. Some used, demo & open box. They stand behind what they offer too.

FWIW....

My favorite scope at the moment is the NF ATACR F1 4-16. Love the size and weight of this optic. Low profile locking turret and digital illumination is a nice touch too. I also have the 5-25 ATACR and like the smaller version by far. I think it's still early for the X5 to have a good read on how it would sell used.

Buzz, firemans reccomendations in other posts actually wouldn't be the best for f class. My first recommendation would be a NF 15-55, second would be the vortex golden eagle 15-60

F-class is another animal. I doubt F-class guys use Mil/Mil FFP. When in Rhome, do as the Roman's do.

Nightforce is hard to look away from, but I'd try to find one used.

Well, one of the high end scopes my tongue is hanging out for, is the NF ATACR F-1 5-25X Mil-R reticle, of course.

God willing I get to build an extreme range rifle, that's the scope for it.

S and B or the Tangent Theta

In the NF for glass clarity you need to get in the atacr line , it is more noticeable than the nxs

I know you said no vortex but they have a new high end scope that is supposed to be really really good and all American

There are a couple kahles scopes.

But for the money I would go atacr or look at new vortex. $2-3500 not $3000 plus

New tangent theta is out of his price range anyway, and there arent many used ones that I've seen floating around for $3k. Lots of lightly used S&Bs for great prices if you know where to look and I know of a vendor selling brand new S&B 5-25x56s for several hundred less than list price because of the new optics S&B is releasing. You can snag a 5-25x56 H2CMR with locking MTC turrets for $3200 vs over $4000 new...

Why no Vortex? I have a GenII Razor and it's very comparable to my NF.

This is what I have on my 7WSM and absolutely love it. Unfortunately I don't have another "high end" scope to compare it with. I have only compared it with my Vortex PST 4-16x50 ffp, PST 6-24x50 ffp, my dad's Leupold vx3 4.5-14x50 30mm tube, and a buddy's new NF SHV 4-16 F1 and in my opinion they don't even come close (which they shouldn't).

I always thought serious F class guys went with higher magnification scopes above 30X. In that case go Nightmare.

For a regular 5-25x, go Nightforce F1, used SB or used Premier.

If you got the coin buy the Tangent Theta and you'll never sell it.

I picked up a F-TR class rifle used and have a Sightron SIII 8-32 on it and it's a good solid performer for the money. Tracks very good and I love the reticle. Only shot one match so far with this setup and took 3rd because I can't read wind.

I am getting the Golden Eagle Vortex for the F-TR that Derrick at Horizon is building for me.

Central Texas Silhueta Association in New Braunfels has a 500 yard F-Class match the first Saturday of each month.

Check the Texas State Rifle Association for its F-Class matches.

Khales or ATACR, not even a hard decision.
