Question for you UTV owners. I have a UTV that weighs in at 1600# and is 111" in length. My trailer is a Big Tex single axle rated 3x that weight. It is a 12 foot trailer. Questions are this: I know if I load it fully at the front of the trailer that I will get worse gas mileage and a bit of sway, but it seems more secure on tie downs. If I load it a bit back so is a little more centered on the axle itseemsless secure since it is not resting against the front rail of trailer. So what is the best positioning for safety, sway, tire wear and ease of securing? I currently use a 4 point strap tie down with each strap rated at 5000#.

In those situations I like to move my trailer anchor points to pull against each other. front anchor points move forward, rear move backwards. Get one of them snug, then tighten the other to pull it forward. If that isn't enough I can always screw a 2x4 or two into the floor to chock the wheels, if your trailers main job is hauling it you can leave them in it.

What about those hitch patches. My accepts receivers both from and back. Seems to be a better option if plates are anchored through the floor?

I have a tandem axle 16' trailer, so it isn't as big of an issue for me. However, I welded a big D ring to the front center of my trailer. I attached a 4K rated turnbuckle with a hook to the D clip. I pull up on the trailer, put the UTV in neutral, roll it back until I can clip the turnbuckle into the center towing point in the UTV's bumper, I then push it to the rear of the trailer until the turnbuckle stops it, I then run a racket strap thru a clevis I have in the 2" receiver on the UTV, I strap it tight, put the UTV in gear, turn the turnbuckle a time or tow, and done. Takes me 5 minutes max and the UTV doesn't budge until I unstrap it.

park UTV with weight evenly distributed, slightly heavy on the tongue of the trailer. Leave UTV in gear with parking brake firmly set. Toss a heavy duty ratchet strap (I use 10k lb strap) thru the floor board of the UTV and attach ends to the trailer frame, ratchet down to compress the UTV suspension. rock on.

I like the straps with the flat hook like these... This will let you put the strap down through the trailer loop and bring it back up to hook on top... this will keep from any type of bounce causing slack in the strap and the hooks popping out of the bottom. It has to be the big heavy straps though.. you will cut a small one latching it in like that over time

Great Navasot! Can you send me a few pics of actual strap down on trailer? We have the same machine!

Was going to call you and ask about these because I remember you using them years ago Yeah, this is the 2nd trailer I've put them on. I suppose if you used your trailer for a lot of other things they could get in the way but I don't use the trailer that often unless it is to move the Ranger. I did get a frig for a buddy once but it fit in between them and wasn't an issue.

I would feel better with all 4 I believe.

All I had was this 16 and a 10ft but still same concept. I was surprised it fit on that 10ft and would tie down the same other than having to hook the straps to the two front frame beams rather than hooks to get a good front pull
Hope this helps

I do have one safety tie down strap that I latch to the roll bar but it's more to make me feel better than use it actually has.

Thanks Navasot. I will test this weekend. Only 65 miles of mostly highway. I bet I get less sway and better gas mileage with your setup. I got only 9.3 mpg front loaded. Will share results after this weekend.

It will help a lot let the trailer take the weight and the truck pull it. The pitch of the trailer makes a big difference also. If you load it up and the deck is pitched hard still you may need to find a drop hitch or even flip the hitch around to make the ball sit higher. Also if you got the fold down windshield and no back pannel fold it down to reduce drag

Every time I do this the trailer cuts my straps. I have have 15K straps, so they aren't the cheap ones.

I had a situation where I could not allow the Rhino to move back from the front rail even a couple of inches, as had happen before with ratchet straps. The reason was that I had only a couple of inches of clearance between my Rhino and the ramp gate for the generator we sometimes use at the lease. The pictures below show my solution for securing the Rhino so it would not slide back at all. I hook the chains to two holes in the skid plate on the Rhino.
