This past weekend things were fairly slow out at my place. Had lots of sign but only had one old boar show up at my feeder with almost no light left. Let an arrow fly at him but shot around 4 inches low for some reason. Couldn't really line up the pin with the peep in that low light. Fast foward to Sunday afternoon. I wanted to get out there what I thought would be early 4:30. Well arrived to my ladder stand and was two rungs from the top when 6 hogs came literally running out of nowhere to the feeder. They were on a mission! My .223 was hanging on a limb above me and my bow was on the seat of the stand. Again I'm standing on the ladder with the hogs at the feeder behind me. My heart started pumping so hard I thought it was going to jump out of my chest. I felt like if I moved they were going to spook. I went for my bow and one of the cams hit the side of the two man ladder stand. I cringed thinking they were gone. The largest male looked a little apprehensive but kept on eating with the others. I managed to knock an arrow, twist my torso so I could face behind me and let an arrow fly. Wack! Right through a 120 pound white and black spotted hog. They all ran including the one I shot. As they turned to head back the way they came from I saw the arrow protruding out the opposite side of the hog with only the fletching and maybe 2 inches of shaft still in the hog. I was pumped! Got down and went check for blood, and NOTHING! Not a drop! I was bummed but since it was early I thought I'm getting back up in the stand. Another group may come in. Not 10 minutes later the same group comes back this time about 50 yards to me left and they don't move towards the feeder. Also the hog I shot is not with them. The work themselves behind me at about 50 yards or so. I grab the bushmaster with open sights and pick out the largest one and let one fly. Four of the group high tail it and I squeeze off around 4 or 5 more rounds at them. This whole thing now has me sweating and was intense as heck. I climb down from the stand and check both spots where I shot. Not a drop of blood again! Now I'm thinking, "wow what a looser, I can't hit a thing!" So I climb back up in the stand thinking this over. I say to myself I shoot that .223 out past a 100yards with open sights and regularly hit what I'm aiming at. Something isn't right here. So I decide to get down and walk down further in the direction that boar was headed in. About 50 yards down the trail he's down. I shot him about mid shoulder with a Hornady match ammo 68 grain hollow point. Exit was around the size of a quarter but it did the trick. I think he stood there for a minute bleeding from his mouth because the base of that post oak was full of blood. All I could do to drag him to where I could hook him up to a tow strap on my truck. Then I had to walk back about half a mile to get my pickup. He was around 175lbs if not more. Dragging him through a pasture of coastal cleaned him up. I took the straps and hind quarters using the gutless method. Also I pulled the game cam card thinking my bow shot might have been capture it wasn't. Next morning before we left I drove my very loud 12 valve within a 100yards of that same feeder to replace the card. One of the pigs from the group was there yet again! All I had was my .22 mag pistol so I let one fly at him at about 40 yards. Not sure if I hit him and he ran off. All and all it was a good trip but only saw a handful of deer. I truly guess I have a hog problem!

Nice big hog there! Congrats on the action. Sounded fun!

Not uncommon in my experience to have hogs leave no blood trail. They have a layer of fat that just closes up the wound and they bleed out internally. Always search for the hogs, never go by blood trail alone. That is, if you are interested in recovering them.

Thanks, they keep my feet warm and dry and protect from all the dang grass burrs(who has 250 for chipawas?)I never found him. I looked for him but its so thick back in there its difficult. Later on that evening I heard the Yotes and they were exceptionally loud and vocal. I think they found him. I wanted the one I shot with arrow because he was smaller and probably would've been better eatin.

Nice going. My theory on mid-size hogs is to cook the backstraps. If they're tough, the leg quarters become ground pork.

Keep after 'em!

I have two unwritten rules:

2.

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.
